NGUYEN GARNERS BIG SKY WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
OGDEN, Utah – With 3-0 records at both No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles Hornet sophomore Jennifer Nguyen led the Hornets to three Big Sky wins last week and has been named Big Sky Player of the Week, her second such honor of the season.
Sacramento State opened Big Sky play over the weekend with home wins over Southern Utah, Weber State, and Idaho State. In singles play Nguyen started her weekend with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 over SUU's Alex Ivanova and followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Agata Bachanek of Weber State. On Sunday she was again nearly perfect with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Idaho State's Marian Tangarife.
Nguyen played with sophomore Daria Savchenko at No. 2 doubles in each of the three matches, starting with an 8-0 blanking of Southern Utah's Jane Marushko and Veronika Rogova. The pair then scored an 8-2 win against the No. 2 duo of Weber State and ended the weekend with an 8-2 win over Kelsey Bacon and Madelyn Weltzin of Idaho State.
The pair of Nguyen and Savchenko are now 4-1 this season at No. 2 doubles and Nguyen has four victories playing exclusively at No. 1 singles.
