WOMEN’S TENNIS TOPS IDAHO STATE 6-1, NOW 3-0 IN BIG SKY
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State made it a 3-0 weekend against Big Sky foes with a 6-1 victory Sunday over Idaho State at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club, extending its Big Sky winning streak to 108 matches.
The Hornets (4-7, 3-0 Big Sky) made quick work of the Bengals (1-8, 0-3 Big Sky) in doubles play. Sacramento State won 8-2 at each of the three doubles spots to improve to 9-0 in Big Sky doubles matches on the season and take the early lead.
Sacramento State also had little trouble in singles play and won three matches in which they allowed only one opponent game. Sophomore Jennifer Nguyen dispatched of Idaho State's Marian Tangarife 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 match while sophomores Daria Savchenko at No. 3 and Olivia Boija at No. 5 each tallied 6-1, 6-0 victories.
Freshman Alina Soltanici won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and senior Katharina Knoebl outlasted Madelyn Weltzin 6-3, 6-5 at No. 4. Hornet freshman Emily McColl made her spring collegiate debut at No. 6 and took a narrow 6-3, 6-4 loss against Zamira Vasquez for ISU's lone point in the match.
Sacramento State will play four more home matches next week, starting with a dual against UT Arlington at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rio Del Oro.
