At No. 4, Savchenko railed from a set down to force a third, but was narrowly outlasted 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (13-11) by Don sophomore Andrea Ka. Hornet sophomore Jennifer Nguyen battled 116th-ranked Tyra Taune in the No. 1 match but was also narrowly defeated, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) as the match was level at 3-3.

Bulatovaite pushed San Francisco sophomore Sofia Holmberg to tiebreaks in each set at No. 2 but fell 7-6, 7-6 in what turned out to be the deciding match.

The Hornets dropped their first contest of the year while San Francisco improved to 2-0 on the young season. Sacramento State will play its first road match of the season at 1 p.m. Tuesday at San Jose State.
