SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's tennis team will make its 12th straight NCAA Tournament appearance when it plays at USC on Saturday, May 11.
The Hornets (13-13) earned an automatic bid into the tournament after winning the Big Sky Conference Tournament for the 12th consecutive season. The team will face the Women of Troy at noon. The matchup against the annual power is nothing new to Sacramento State as the team will face a Pac-12 opponent for the seventh time in 12 years.
UC Irvine (22-4) will play San Jose State (19-5) in the other match at the site. That contest will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the winners of the two matches playing on Sunday at noon.
Sacramento State enters NCAA Tournament having won three in a row and four of the last five. The Hornets went 10-0 against Big Sky opponents during the regular season and have now won 104 straight matches against conference opponents. Nine of the team's 13 losses during the year came against ranked opponents.
Senior Rebeca Delgado has been the top player for the Hornets, posting a 16-10 record at No. 1, including a 10-0 mark against conference opponents.
This draw against USC marks the third time the school's have met in the NCAA Tournament (2003, 2010). A year after reaching the semifinals, USC is the No. 5 seed in 2013. The Women of Troy feature five nationally ranked players, including No. 2 Sabrina Santamaria and No. 9 Danielle Lao.
