WOMEN'S TENNIS PUTS UP FIGHT AGAINST No. 45 WASHINGTON IN 5-2 DEFEAT

SEATTLE — Rebeca Delgado earned a victory in singles and doubles but the Sacramento State women's tennis team fell to No. 45 Washington, 5-2, on Saturday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

The Huskies (12-9) clinched the doubles points with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 before Delgade and Olivia Boija upset the 63rd ranked team of Elianne Douglas-Mironand Riko Shimizu, 8-7 (8-6) at No. 1.

Washington took the first three singles matches to be decided to secure the victory. Shimuze posted a 6-0, 6-2, win at No. 6 over Andrea Gomes Carus to make the score 2-0. Douglas-Minron downed Sophie Lohschedit, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 and Grace Ysidora beat Jennifer Nguyen, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 in the deciding match.

Despite the outcome being cemented, the Hornets fought for a pair of singles victories late in the match. Delgado posted a 6-4, 7-5, decision over Andjela Nemcevic at No. 1 to claim the team's first point. Katharina Knoebl provided the second with a 3-6, 6-3, 11-9, win at No. 5.

Sacramento State will wrap up its regular season on Sunday at Portland State on Sunday. The Hornets are currently 9-0 in Big Sky matches and have clinched the top seed for the Big Sky Tournament which will be held at Gold River Racquet Club April 26-28.
