SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team has added 11 new players to the roster for the 2019 season, head coach Randy Dedini announced today. The 11 newcomers are the largest incoming class in Dedini's 13 seasons at the helm for the Hornets.

"We are very excited about adding these 11 great players to our program and our soccer family," said Dedini. "The depth and variety of skills and experience that this group brings is invaluable to our growth as a team and a Hornet family both on and off the field." 

The 11 newcomers are made up of freshman, sophomores, and juniors and came from three different states. Seven of the 11 are transfers while the remaining four are incoming freshmen.

In alphabetical order, here are your now Hornets in 2019!

Samantha Craig - Jr. - MF/F - Rocklin, Calif. / Sierra College


Coach Dedini on Samantha: "We're excited about Sammie! She was a JUCO All-American for Sierra JC and we believe she can come in and impact our team right away. Sammie's a tough kid who will help our midfield create goals and assists."

Danielle Davis - Jr. - GK - Antioch, Calif. / Diablo Valley College

Dedini: "Danielle is a very athletic goalkeeper. She has a way about her where she takes command of her goal box and can make the big save. She will be a great addition to our already strong goalkeeper group!"

Darian Louthan - Fr. - D/MF - Rocklin, Calif. / Whitney HS

Dedini: "Darian is a talented defender and midfielder who will add some depth and competition to our back line. Darian is a versatile grinder. She's tough, skilled, fit and smart. We know that she is ready to step in and play at the next level."

Alexa Moss - Fr. - F/MF - Minden, Nev. / Douglas HS

Dedini: "Alexa is an athletic player with good speed and skills. She is most dangerous in wide spaces where she can utilize her speed and one-on-one skills. Alexa has a lot of upside to her game and we're excited to see her compete for time."

Kacie Pou - So. - F - Carlsbad, Calif. / Louisiana

Dedini: "Kacie is an elite athlete! Her combination of size, power and speed will create havoc for our opponents. With a year of experience already under her belt we expect Kacie to come in and immediately compete for time."

Megan Pust - Jr. - F/MF - Merced, Calif. / Fresno State

Dedini: "Megan can fly and strike a ball very well, which makes her a handful to mark for any defender. As a wide forward or midfielder she will create mismatches on the field that we expect to advantage of."

Sedona Robinson - Fr. - F - Rocklin, Calif. / Rocklin Independent Charter

Dedini: "Sedona is another very athletic player who has good speed and good athleticism. She has competed at a very high club level where she's been well coached and groomed to succeed at this level."

Vanessa Ruvalcaba - Jr. - MF - Pittsburgh, Calif. / Diablo Valley College

Dedini: "Vanessa is a strong and skilled midfielder. She adds a little something different to our midfield with her style of play. She's very creative and dangerous in the attacking third with her vision and powerful shot."

Victoria Sanchez - Fr. - MF - Roseville, Calif. / Woodcreek HS

Dedini: "Victoria is a very smart midfielder and forward player who has a strong understanding of the game. She's technical and plays fast. Her high soccer IQ and tactical understanding of the game will allow her to compete for time at multiple positions."

Ashlee Schouten - Jr. - MF - South Lake Tahoe, Calif. / Santa Barbara City

Dedini: "Ashlee is very creative midfielder and was a standout in at Santa Barbara City College. She is a versatile player and can cover a lot of ground. She also brings a great work ethic and strong soccer IQ."

Shantel Torres-Benito - Jr. - F - Waipahu, Hawaii / Peninsula College

Dedini: "Shantel is a player I've admired for years and now she'll finally become a Hornet! She is an excellent player in wide areas where she can take advantage of her great speed and one-on-one skills."

With the 11 additions, the team enters the 2019 season with 32 players on the roster, nine more than the program had last season. Additionally, the Hornets welcome back two redshirts to the active roster, freshman Jasmyne Dunn and sophomore Itzel Gonzalez.

The 2019 season of women's soccer begins with a preseason exhibition match on Friday, Aug. 16. The regular season starts with a toad match at causeway rival UC Davis on Aug. 23 and the team's home opener is set for Sunday, Aug. 25 against Cal Poly.
