SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jackie Sampson was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Specialist of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the first for Sampson during her career and the first Specialist of the Week award for the Hornets this season.
Competing in her first meet of the season, Sampson finished in first place on both bars and beam last Friday night at Seattle Pacific. The Glendale, Ariz., native started with a 9.850 on bars which left her a quarter-tenth ahead of the rest of the field. She then scored 9.825 on beam to win by .05 points.
Sampson earned second team all-MPSF honors last season on bars. She competed on bars and beam in 10 meets and was in the floor lineup nine times. She missed the first six meets of 2019 due to injury.
Sacramento State will hold its final home meet of the season on Friday, March 1, against No. 14 California and UC Davis at 7 p.m. Following the meet the team will honor Sampson as well as fellow seniors Carly Pratt and Lauren Schmeiss on Senior Night.
