TRIO OF GYMNASTS SELECTED TO NCAA SALT LAKE REGIONAL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Three members of the Sacramento State gymnastics team earned invitations to the NCAA Salt Lake City Regional, it was announced today. Seniors Annie Juarez and Caitlin Soliwoda will compete as all-arounders while senior Courtney Soliwoda will be an event specialist on balance beam. The meet will take place on Saturday, April 7, at 3 p.m. PDT.

Juarez will be making her first first career postseason appearance and was recently named first team all-league in the all-around and on bars and floor as well as second team on vault. The Westfield, Ind., native led the team with an Regional Qualifying Score of 39.155 during the regular season. Juarez most recently placed second at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships with a total of 39.200. She had six scores of at least 39 points during the season.

Caitlin Soliwoda showcased her consistency throughout the year as she averaged 39.005 in 11 meets with an RQS of 39.070. Soliwoda was named first team all-MPSF in the all-around as well as on bars and beam. She also earned second team honors on vault and floor. This year marks the second consecutive season in which the North Las Vegas native advanced to the postseason as an all-arounder.

Courtney Soliwoda punched her ticket to an NCAA Regional as an event specialist on beam for the second straight season. Soliwoda had an RQS of 9.835 during the season and scored 9.8 or better seven times. She ended the regular season by averaging 9.842 on beam in the final six meets before the MPSF Championships.

The Salt Lake City Regional is one of six across the country. The meet will include Utah, California, Auburn, BYU, Stanford and Southern Utah. The top two teams as well as the top two all-arounders outside of those schools will advance to the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. Juarez will rotate with Auburn and will begin at floor. Caitlin Soliwoda will be paired with BYU and will start on a bye before moving to bars. Courtney Soliwoda will compete with Stanford on beam during the second rotation.
