SENIORS LEAD THE WAY FOR GYMNASTICS IN FINAL HOME MEET OF THE YEAR

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A career high from Annie Juarez in the all-around lifted the Sacramento State gymnastics team to its third consecutive home score of at least 195.000 on Friday night at The Nest. The Hornets scored 195.275 to place third in the meet behind 13th-ranked Oregon State (196.850) and 17th-ranked Arizona State (195.900) and ahead if UC Davis (194.475).

Juarez, who was one of six seniors honored following the meet on Senior Night, totaled 39.275 in the all-around. She had scores of 9.775 on vault and bars before a career high 9.875 on beam and a  9.850 on floor. Her score now gives her five meets over 39 points this year and increases her chances of qualifying for the NCAA West Regional later this year.

Fellow senior Cailtin Soliwoda scored 39.100, marking the third time this season that each went over 39 points. Soliowda opened with a 9.850 on vault and followed with scores of 9.775 on bars, 9.800 on beam and 9.675 on floor.

"They way we are competing right now is just like how we practice," Sacramento State head coach Randy Solorio said. "I wish we could keep competing at home because we are scoring very well. It was a great way for these seniors to end their careers at home. They are a special group who are very close to each other and are Hornets for life."

Sacramento State was steady throughout the evening, scoring 48.725 or better on all four events and did not have a fall in any of its 24 routines. The team started on vault with a 48.725 and was led by Caitlin Soliwoda and Juarez. Alexis Belkoff and Courtney Soliwoda each scored 9.750.

On bars, senior Courteney Ng set the tone with a leadoff 9.775. That score would later be matched by Jackie Sampson, Juarez and Caitlin Soliwoda as the quartet tied for the team lead. A 9.700 from Courtney Soliwoda capped the rotation and gave the team a score of 48.800.

The Hornets had their highest team score of the night on beam at 48.975. Freshman Kendra Braida began the rotation with a 9.800 and the team's final three gymnasts each scored 9.8 or better. Juarez tallied her 9.875 to tie for second place. Caitlin Soliwoda scored 9.800 before Courtney Soliwoda closed the rotation with a 9.875.

The highlight on floor came from senior Jennifer Brenner who battled technical difficulties all the way to a career high. Early in her routine, Brenner's music stopped playing and she was forced to complete her routine with the crowd and teammates cheering her own. She received a 9.875 to lead the team and record her season best. Juarez was close behind with a 9.850 and Carly Pratt ranked third on the team at 9.750.

Sacramento State will next travel to Air Force for the MPSF Championships on March 24.
