  • EIGHT GYMNASTS BRING HOME MPSF ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

    Eight members of the Sacramento State gymnastics team earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-academic honors. The eight selections were tied for the most in the conference. To earn the award, a student-athlete must have a minimum of a 3.00 grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically, have competed at her institution for at least one season and competed in 50 percent or more of her team’s meets during the 2017 season.

    The 2017 Sacramento State gymnastics season came to a close on Saturday as four Hornets competed at the NCAA Seattle Regional. Lauren Rice tied for eighth place and Caitlin Soliwoda was 10th in the all-around to lead the team. The Hornets also received a tie for seventh from Julia Konner on vault.

    Four members of the Sacramento State gymnastics team will continue their 2017 season at the NCAA Seattle Regional on Saturday, April 1, at 6 p.m. PDT. The Hornets will be represented by all-arounders Caitlin Soliwoda and Lauren Rice and individual event specialists Courtney Soliwoda and Julia Konner.

    The Sacramento State women’s gymnastics team scored at least 195 points for the second consecutive meet but finished third at the MPSF Championships on Saturday at San Jose State. The Hornets totaled 195.175 but trailed SJSU (195.925) and UC Davis (195.175) in the team standings.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team will look to defend its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title as the team heads to San Jose State for the MPSF Championships on Saturday, March 18, at the Events Center. The six-team meet begins at 6 p.m.
  • LAUREN RICE NAMED MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK

    Junior Lauren Rice has been selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week after scoring a season high in the all-around and helping the team score 195.275 and earn victories over Arizona State and Bridgeport. The win over Arizona State was the first in school history and the second over a Pac-12 opponent this year for the Hornets.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team posted its second best score of 2017 to finish first in a close three-team meet at Arizona State on Friday night. The Hornets totaled 195.275 to edge Bridgeport (195.050) and the host Sun Devils (194.925). Sacramento State’s score marked the second time in three meets that the team scored at least 195.000.

    Sacramento State junior Caitlin Soliwoda was selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week after scoring 39.225 to win the all-around in the team’s most recent meet against UC Davis and Seattle Pacific. The honor is the second for Soliwoda this season.

    Caitlin Soliwoda finished first in the all-around and tied for first on beam, Julia Konner shared the top spot on vault and Courtney Soliwoda tied for first on bars to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team. The Hornets scored 193.475 to finish second in the three-team meet at The Nest. UC Davis finished first with a total of 194.950 and Seattle Pacific was third at 191.725.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics will host its final home meet of the season as it welcomes UC Davis and Seattle Pacific to The Nest on Saturday, March 4. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. PT and will be followed by Senior Night ceremonies recognizing the Hornets’ four seniors.

    Lauren Rice tied for first place on bars and Caitlin Soliwoda claimed a share of the top spot on floor to lead Sacramento State in a four-team meet on Friday at UC Davis. The Hornets scored 193.250 to place third in the meet behind UC Davis (194.650) and San Jose State (193.875) and ahead of Seattle Pacific (192.600).

    Led by a career high from Caitlin Soliwoda in the all-around, the Sacramento State gymnastics team scored its best mark of the season on Sunday in a four-team meet at Texas Woman’s. The Hornets totaled 195.550 to place second behind the host Pioneers (196.000). Western Michigan was third at 195.375 and Penn State finished fourth at 194.550. Sacramento State’s total was the seventh best in school history.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team returns to The Nest to host Alaska Anchorage on Friday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. The meet will serve as the team’s “Think Pink” night as the Hornets will wear commemorative leotards in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team suffered its first dual meet loss of the season as it fell to UC Davis 194.925-193.050 on Sunday afternoon at The Pavilion. The Hornets fell to 5-2 on the year with its only other loss coming against 15th-ranked Cal at the NorCal Classic.

    Sacramento State gymnasts Caitlin Soliwoda and Annie Juarez were each recognized by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for their efforts in the Hornets’ victory at Air Force on Jan. 21. Soliwoda was named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week while Juarez was the Specialist of the Week.

    The 24th-ranked Sacramento State gymnastics team improved to 5-1 on the season following a 193.150-191.475 victory over Air Force on Saturday at Cadet Gym. The Hornets scored 48.400 or better in three events but were held back by a shaky performance on floor which resulted in a 47.250.

    Sacramento State gymnasts accounted for at least a share of all four individual event titles as well as the all-around in the team’s 194.400-192.725 victory over San Jose State on Friday night at The Nest. Following a 194.475 at the NorCal Classic on Monday, the Hornets have now surpassed 194.400 in their initial two meets for the first time in school history.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team started its 2017 season in record breaking fashion, totaling 194.475 to place second at the NorCal Classic on Monday night at Cal. The score was the highest by a Hornet team in a season-opener, breaking the mark of 194.400 which came at the NorCal Classic in The Nest in 2014.
