SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Kalliah McCartney finished first on bars and floor and won the all-around to help the Sacramento State gymnastics team defeat UC Davis on Friday night in front of a standing-room only crowd at The Nest.

The Hornets scored 194.725 while the Aggies finished at 192.825. The victory was the first for Sacramento State this season over UC Davis in three tries. The teams will meet again on March 15 in Davis.

Sacramento State took an immediate lead in the meet, scoring 48.625 on vault while UCD was forced to count a fall on bars and finished at 47.850. McCartney led the Hornets with a 9.800 to tie for third. Kaila Kilwein and Kailey Hansen tied for fifth place with 9.725s.

UC Davis chipped away at the Hornet lead during the second rotation with the help of a 48.800 on vault compared to the Hornets' 48.775 on bars. McCartney took home top honors in the event with a career-high tying 9.825. Ashley Wooff and Nicole Meiller were part of a three-way tie for third place with 9.750s. Cayla Beutler and Cassie Benning were right behind at 9.725 to give Sacramento State five scores of 9.725 or higher.

A pair of falls on beam by the Hornets opened the door for UC Davis during the third rotation. Sacramento State settled for a 48.375 with Hansen, McCartney and Elideth Guerrero rallying to keep the team in the lead. Hansen won the event with a season high of 9.900, McCartney finished second (9.875) and Guerrero was third (9.750). That team score combined with the Aggies' 48.825 on floor gave Sacramento State just a three-tenths lead heading to the final rotation.

On floor, the Hornets responded with five scores of 9.750 or better and amassed a 48.950. UC Davis counted two falls and finished with 47.350 on beam to give Sacramento State a decisive victory. The Hornets began the order with a pair of 9.750s from Dallas Smith and Kilwein. The back half of the order was comprised of a 9.825 from Beutler, a 9.800 by Benning and a 9.825 from McCartney. Beutler and McCartney finished in a three-way tie for first place with UCD's Stephanie Stamates.

Sacramento State will remain at home next week to face Utah State in a Western Athletic Conference meet. Acrtion begins at 7 p.m. in The Nest.
