BLAIR, GRAND, MADAN ALL IN TOP 10 AFTER SECOND DAY OF RAINBOW WAHINE

KAPOLEI, Hawaii — Freshmen Tess Blair and Cloe Grand each shot 70 and Nishtha Madan added a 1-under par round of 71 for the low scores among Sacramento State golfers during the second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Tuesday. Grand, who is competing as an individual sits in second place, Blair is tied for third and Madan is tied for sixth.

Sacramento State remained in second place and are three strokes back of Cal Poly for the team lead heading into the final round. The Hornets improved by four strokes on Tuesday and were able to move past first-round leader Sam Houston State. However, Cal Poly was 11-under as a team and currently sit at 1-under.

Blair posted her best round of her young career to lead the Hornet lineup. She was 1-under par on both sides of the course with a bogey on two birdies. After two pars, she bogeyed the par-4 third and then birdied the par-5 fourth and par-3 eighth. Blair returned to even following a bogey on the par-3 12th but answered with birdies on the par-5 14th and 17th. She is currently in third place at 71-70-141 and is two strokes behind Cal Poly' Carolina Cantlay (74-65-139).

Nishtha Madan shot 71 and is tied for seventh overall. Like Blair, Madan also had an early bogey (No. 2) and was even at the midway point of her round with two birdies and two bogeys. She birdied the par-4 11th and par-3 12th to get to 2-under but fell back to even after a double bogey on the par-3. 16th. The senior ended her round with a birdie on the par-5 18th.

Sofie Babic ranked third on the team with an ever par 72. Babic birdied to the par-4 second and par-5 seventh to jump to 2-under before a bogey on No. 8. She started the back nine with a birdie on the par-5 10th but that proved to be her last birdie of the round. Babic was 2-over on her final eight holes with six pars and bogeys on Nos. 12 and 17.

Sydney Smith used to late birdies to get to 74 and count as the final score towards the team total. Smith was even on the front nine with a birdie on the par-5 third and a bogey on the par-5 seventh. She found herself at 4-over after a triple bogey on the par-4 11th and a bogey on the next hole. However, Smith rallied by birdying the par-3 16th and par-6 17th.

Corinne Viden completed the five-golfer lineup with an 82. Viden had two birdies, eight bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.

Grand added her second consecutive round of 70 and is one stroke behind Cal Poly's Carolyn Cantlay for the individual lead. Grand started off 10th hole wtih seven pars and then birdied the par-5 17th and par-4 18th. She was even on the front nine with birdies on the par-4 sixth and ninth along with two bogeys.

Miki Manta shot 78 and Amelia Hicks 79 as individuals. Manta's round was comprised of three birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. Hicks had a birdie, three bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey.

The Hornets will play with Cal Poly, Sam Houston State and BYU during the final round. The foursomes will begin on the first tee at 11:10 a.m. PT.
