FARMINGTON, Utah — After recording four rounds of 72 or better, Sacramento State's Nishtha Madan was named the Big Sky Conference Co-Women's Golfer of the Week. The honor is the second for Madan this season and the third of her career.
The Hornets competed at two tournaments over the past week, beginning at The Princess Anne Invitational in Virginia Beach, Va., on Oct. 4-6. From there, the team flew cross country to play in the UW Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Samammish, Wash., on Oct. 8-9. Madan tied for 11th at The Princess Anne with rounds of 71-72-69-212 on the par-70 course. Her total tied her for 11th overall and tied her for her career best 54-hole mark. The senior's 69 in the final round was the second lowest of her career.
Madan carried that momentum to the Pacific Northwest where she claimed her first collegiate individual title. She shot 74 during the first round before rain wiped out the second round of that day. Madan returned on Wednesday to shoot a 2-under par round of 70 and won the tournament by four stokes.
In three tournaments this season, Madan is averaging 71.75 and has placed among the top 20 in each event. She shared this week's award with Southern Utah's Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan who shot 70-74-74-218 to tie for fifth at the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii on Oct. 28-30.
