WEATHER CUTS EDEAN IHLANFELDT INVITATIONAL DOWN TO 36-HOLE TOURNAMENT

SAMAMMISH, Wash. — Sofie Babic and Nishtha Madan each shot 74 as the Sacramento State women's golf team battled the course as well as the elements during the first round of the UW Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Monday. The tournament was originally scheduled to have two rounds on the Tuesday with a single round on Wednesday. However, after a lengthy weather delay around noon, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes with a single round each day.

Sacramento State is tied for third place after shooting 305 as a team to finish at 17-over par. UC Davis leads the tournament with a first round score of 297 and is followed by Washington which totaled 304. The Hornets and Rutgers are both one stroke back of the Huskies for second place and BYU is in fifth at 306.

Madan had the best start on the team as she played the back nine of the course at 1-under par. The senior birdied the par-5 11th and par-3 13th to get to 2-under through her first four holes. She parred Nos. 14-16 before a bogey on the par-3 17th. After three more pars, she jumped to 2-over following a triple bogey on the par-4 third hole. Madan responded with a birdie on the par-4 fourth and eagled the par-5 sixth to get back to 1-under. She ended her round with a bogey on the par-4 eighth and a double bogey on the par-3 ninth.

Babic was even through her first nine holes with a birdie on No. 13 and a bogey on the par-4 15th. She started the front nine with bogeys on the first two holes and moved to 3-over with a bogey on the par-4 fourth. Babic then rallied with birdies on the par-3 fifth and par-5 sixth to get back to 1-over. She wrapped up the first round with a stretch of par-bogey-par on her final three holes.

Corinne Viden ranked third on the team with a round of 76. Viden was 3-over on the back nine with a birdie on the par-5 11th and four bogeys. She stood at 4-over following a bogey on the first hole but eagled the 435-yard, par-5 second. The junior had two more bogeys and five pars in the remainder of the round.

Sydney Smith shot 81 and Tess Blair 84 to complete the lineup. Smith birdied the 11th hole to get to 1-under early in her round but had eight bogeys and a double bogey. Blair bogeyed six of her first seven holes and completed the round with 10 bogeys and a double bogey.

Cloe Grand and Amelia Hicks each competed as individuals. Grand shot 83 while Hicks had a round of 92.

UC Davis' Rei Nakatani and Seattle U's Kimberlee Tottori each shot even par to hold the individual lead. The pair have a two stroke lead over four golfers who are tied for third, including Madan and Babic.

Sacramento State will tee off on Wednesday beginning at 7:50 a.m. The team will be paired with Long Beach State and BYU with all groups going off No. 1.
