WOMEN'S GOLF SURGES INTO THE LEAD AT THE PRINCESS ANN INVITATIONAL

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Sacramento State women's golf team jumped three spots and took over the lead during the second round of The Princess Anne Invitational on Saturday. The Hornets shot 287 as a team and now own a two-stroke lead heading into the final round on Sunday.

Junior Sofie Babic led Sacramento State with a 1-under par round of 69. Babic is now tied for fourth place at 71-69-140. On Saturday, She parred her first nine holes before a double bogey on the par-5 10th. From there, Babic birdied three consecutive holes to drop to 1-under and added a birdie on the par-4 16th to fall to 2-under. After a par on 17, she bogeyed the par-5 18th to end her round.

Nishtha Madan ranked second on the team during the round and is tied for 12th at 72-71-143. Madan parred her first seven holes and remained even at the turn with a birdie on the par-5 eighth and a bogey on the par-3 ninth. She parred eight of the nine holes on the back side of the course with her only blemish being a bogey on the par-4 13th.

Corinne Viden and Julia Becker are tied for 24th overall with a two-round total of 146. Viden has back-to-back rounds of 73 while Becker has shot 70-76. On Saturday, Viden was 2-over on her first nine holes with a birdie on the par-4 third and three bogeys. She moved to 5-over after bogeys on the par-3 11th and par-4 12th but bounced back with five pars and a birdie on the par-3 15th. Becker had a pair of birdies (Nos. 6 and 15), four bogeys and two double bogeys in her round.

Katie Dunaway contributed towards the team total with a 4-over par round of 74. The senior was 3-over through her first two holes before birdies on the par-4 third and fourth. She parred her next six holes before a stretch of three bogeys over four holes took her to 4-over.

Sacramento State will start the third round at 6:24 a.m. PT on Sunday. The team will be paired with Campbell and UCF.
