WOMEN'S GOLF IN FOURTH PLACE AFTER FIRST ROUND OF THE PRINCESS ANNE INVITATIONAL

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — All five members of the Sacramento State women's golf team shot 75 or better with Julia Becker leading the group with an even par round of 70 on Friday during the first round of The Princess Anne Invitational. The Hornets shot 286 and are in fourth place at 6-over par. The team is just two strokes behind UCF and Campbell and one stroke behind Maryland.

Becker opened play with a bogey on the first hole but then parred her next six. The senior returned to even with a birdie on the par-5 eighth but made the turn at 1-over with a bogey on the par-3 ninth. A bogey on the par-5 10th moved her 2-over. From there, she parred the next five and ended with birdies on the par-4 16th and par-5 18th. Her score has her tied for sixth place and is five strokes behind Maryland's Virunpat Plakitkunchai for the individual lead.

Sofie Babic is tied for 10th place after shooting 71. Babic also bogeyed the first hole and was 1-over through nine holes with a birdie on the par-4 fifth and a bogey on the par-3 seventh. The junior played the back half of the course even with a bogey on the par-4 13th and a birdie on the par-3 15th.

Nishtha Madan shot 72 and is tied for 18th place. Madan overcame bogeys on two of the first three holes to remain at 2-over at the midway point of her round. She was even on the back nine with a bogey on the par-4 12th and par-3 15th.

The final score toward the team total came from Corinne Viden who shot 73 and is tied for 26th place. Viden birdied the first hole and stayed 1-under until a bogey on No. 7 and a triple bogey on No. 8. A bogey on the 10th moved her to 4-over before she played the final eight holes at 1-under par with a birdie on the par-4 16th and seven pars.

Katie Dunaway rounded out the lineup with a 75. Dunaway was 1-over after nine holes with a birdie on the par-4 fifth and a pair of bogeys. She had five pars and four bogeys over her final nine holes.
