EAST LANSING, Mich. — Corinne Viden shot 71 and Julia Becker added a round of 73 to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team in the final round of the Mary Fossum Invitational on Sunday at Forest Akers Golf Course. The Hornets totaled 300 during the round and finished the event in 11th place with a total of 293-311-300-904.
Viden posted her best round of the tournament and tied for 28th overall. The sophomore started on the 11th hole and moved to 2-under with birdies on the par-5 13th and par-4 16th. After a bogey on the par-4 18th, she birdied the par-5 second. Viden remained at 2-under through the fifth hole with a bogey on No. 4 and a birdie on the par-4 fifth. She parred four of her last five holes with the exception being a bogey on the par-3 ninth.
Becker tied for 24th for the best finish on the team. She played the back nine of the course at 2-under with birdies on the par-5 13th and par-4 14th to accompany seven pars. The senior was 3-over on the front side of the course with a double bogey on the par-5 second and a bogey on the par-4 sixth.
Sofie Babic and Katie Dunaway each shot 78 during the third round. Babic tied for 63rd and Dunaway was 73rd in the standings. Babic was 4-over through her first seven holes with bogeys on Nos. 14, 15, 17 and 18. She then parred five consecutive holes and birdied the par-4 sixth and par-3 seventh to drop to 2-over. However, she was 4-over over her final four holes with a bogey on the par-3 ninth and a triple bogey on the par-4 11th.
Dunaway had a birdie, five bogeys and a double bogey during her final round. She parred five of her first six holes before a double bogey on the par-4 first. Her lone birdie came on the par-4 third and she stayed at 2-over through the fifth hole before ending with four bogeys on her final seven holes.
Nishtha Madan shot 82 on Sunday and tied for 67th overall. The junior had one birdie, six bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey during the third round.
Virginia's Anna Redding and Michigan State's Allyson Geer-Park tied for the medalist with the pair shooting 9-under.
Sacramento State will next compete at the Golfweek Conference Challenge on September 24-26 in Wolcott, Colo.
