    The Sacramento State women’s golf team collected its second Big Sky Women’s Golfer of the Week award in the last two weeks as Julie Becker was this week’s recipient. The honor is the first for Becker this season and the third of her career.

    Julia Becker capped a tremendous two days by shooting an even-par round of 72 and finished alone in second place at the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate on Tuesday. Becker shot 71-69-72-212 during the event which left her one shot off the school record which she shares with two others.

    The Sacramento State women’s golf team closed the first day of the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate in a familiar position — atop the leaderboard in a talented field. The Hornets, who most recently ran away with the title at The Gunrock Invitational, hold a 1-stroke lead over Tulsa heading into the final round on Tuesday. The 12-team field features three schools ranked among the top 50 nationally as well as two from the Big Ten and a pair from the Pac-12.

    Corinne Viden recorded her first career victory and set the school record to spark the Sacramento State women’s golf team to its first tournament title of 2018-19. The Hornets led wire-to-wire to claim the title at The Gunrock Invitational on Tuesday at Del Paso Country Club.

    The Sacramento State women’s golf team started The Gunrock Invitational at Del Paso Country Club by recording the second lowest single-round score in school history. The Hornets did not back off during the second round and will take a 17-stroke advantage into the final round on Tuesday.

    Led by a 69 from Julia Becker in the first round and Sofie Babic in the second round, the Sacramento State women’s golf team began the spring portion of its schedule in midseason form. The Hornets shot 295-285-580 and are in second place among the 15 teams. Sacramento State is just two strokes behind 36th-ranked San Jose State and are 11 strokes ahead of 38th-ranked Georgia heading into the final round.

    Sacramento State was selected to finish first at the 2019 Big Sky Women’s Golf Championship, it was announced today. The preseason poll was voted on by league head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own team.

    Former Sacramento State golfer Astha Madan earned her Ladies European Tour card after tying for seventh place at the Finals Lalla Aicha Tour School in Morocco. Madan shot 65-74-69-76-66 in the five-round, multi-stage event.
  • WOMEN'S GOLF ADDS TRANSFER SYDNEY SMITH TO THE ROSTER

    Former Nevada state champion Sydney Smith has transferred to the Sacramento State women’s golf team, it was announced today by head coach David Sutherland. Smith, who competed for Colorado State in the fall, will continue her freshman season for the Hornets this spring and will be immediately eligible.

    The Sacramento State women’s golf team has signed Tess Blair and Cloe Grand to National Letters of Intent, it was announced today. The pair will both enroll at the University as freshmen in the fall of 2019.

    Sacramento State junior Sofie Babic was named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week after her play at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Hawaii. The honor is the second for Babic this season and the third of her career.

    After rain cancelled the first two rounds of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Tuesday, the Sacramento State women’s golf team sprinted to a fourth-place finish in the only round of the tournament on Halloween. The Hornets shot 290 as a team to finish at 2-over par. The team was three strokes behind Florida International which won the event at 1-under par. Nebraska and New Mexico State were even to tie for second place.
  • FIRST AND SECOND ROUNDS OF RAINBOW WAHINE INVITATIONAL WASHED AWAY

    The first two rounds of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Tuesday have been cancelled due to inclement weather. The tournament will be shortened to an 18-hole event on Wednesday with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. PT. Sacramento State will be paired with BYU and UT Rio Grande Valley during the round.

    The Sacramento State women’s golf team jumped three spots and took over the lead during the second round of The Princess Anne Invitational on Saturday. The Hornets shot 287 as a team and now own a two-stroke lead heading into the final round on Sunday.

    All five members of the Sacramento State women’s golf team shot 75 or better with Julia Becker leading the group with an even par round of 70 on Friday during the first round of The Princess Anne Invitational. The Hornets shot 286 and are in fourth place at 6-over par. The team is just two strokes behind UCF and Campbell and one stroke behind Maryland.

    The Sacramento State women’s golf team counted four scores between 73 and 76 during the final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Wednesday at Red Sky Golf Club. The Hornets shot 299 — its lowest score of the tournament — and finished in 12th place at 302-302-299-903.

    The Sacramento State women’s golf team was led by a 2-under par round of 70 from Sofie Babic and a 74 from Julia Becker in the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Monday. The Hornets shot 302 during the first of three days of play and are tin 10th place at 14-over par in the 18-team field.

The Hornets totaled 300 during the round and finished the event in 11th place with a total of 293-311-300-904.

    The Sacramento State women’s golf team will start its season on Saturday at the Mary Fossum Invitational in one of the toughest fields the program has been a part of. The 16-team tournament will feature 13 schools which ended last season ranked among the top 100, including five in the top 50.
