LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Sofie Babic shot 72 and Corinne Viden added a round of 73 to help the Sacramento State women's golf team maintain its team lead during the second round of the NM State Aggie Invitational on Tuesday at the NM State Golf Course.

A day after totaling a 1-under par score of 287, the Hornets endured a cold and windy morning to shoot 298 on Tuesday. The team's two-round total of 585 places it 10 strokes ahead of UTEP in the team standings. UC Riverside is third at 596 and is followed by host New Mexico State (598) and Cal State Fullerton (601) in the top five.

Babic moved into a tie for fourth place after finishing even in the second round. She started on the 17th hole with a par but was 1-over after a bogey on the par-4 18th. Babic parred her next three holes and was even after a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole. She eventually moved to 2-over with bogeys on the par-4 fifth and and ninth. From there, she played her final seven holes at 2-under with birdies on the par-5 12th and par-4 14th as well as five pars.

Viden finished the second round at 1-over par and sits in third place at 71-73-144. She opened her second round on the 16th hole and had three pars. A bogey on the par-4 first took her to 1-over where she stayed until a birdie on the par-5 fourth. Viden parred her next four holes but jumped to 2-over with bogeys on the par-4 ninth and par-3 11th. The freshman birdied the par-5 12th, parred No. 13, bogeyed the par-4 14th and birdied the par-5 15th to end her round.

Nishtha and Astha Madan are tied for 10th place with a two-round total of 146. Nishtha ranked third on the team during the second round with a 75. She bogeyed her four of her first six holes before playing her final 12 at 1-under. She steadied her round with pars on Nos. 5-11 and began her climb back with birdies on the par-5 12th and 15th. However, she bogeyed the par-4 16th to move back to 3-over and ended with a par. Astha followed her opening round of 70 with a 78. She bogeyed four of her first five holes and, after two pars, had three consecutive bogeys on Nos. 5-7. A bogey on the par-4 10th moved her to 8-over before she was able to make up some ground with birdies on the par-4 13th and 14th.

Julia Becker has rounds of 79-80-159 and is tied for 37th. Becker was 7-over through her first seven holes with five bogeys and a double bogey. After three pars, she had consecutive bogeys on Nos. 11 and 12 before a birdie on the par-4 13th and four pars.

Amelia Hicks, who was competing as an individual, posted a career best round of 73 on Tuesday and is tied for 32nd place overall at 83-83-156. Hicks opened on the ninth hole with a bogey but returned to even with a birdie on the par-5 12th. She was 1-over at the midway point of her round following a bogey on the par-4 16th and was 2-over after a bogey on the par-3 second. She rallied behind birdies on the par-5 fourth and par-3 sixth to get back to even. However, she bogeyed the par-4 seventh to conclude her round at 1-over.

The team's other individual was Katie Dunaway who has shot 80-79-159 and is tied for 37th. On Tuesday, Dunaway had a birdie, six bogeys and a double bogey.

Sacramento State will be paired with UTEP and Santa Clara during the final round on Wednesday. Action begins at 7:30 a.m. PT with a shot gun start. The team will be searching for its first victory of the season after recording three tournament titles a year ago.
