PATEL, BABIC NAMED BIG SKY GOLFERS OF THE WEEK

OGDEN, Utah — Sacramento State's Ash Patel and Sofie Babic were named the Big Sky Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Week, it was announced today. The honor was the first for Patel while Babic claimed her second award.

Patel and the Hornets competed at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa. He shot 3-under par (70-72-71) to tie for 10th place overall at the tournament.
 
The senior shot his lowest round of the weekend in the first round but managed to par seven of his final eight holes in the final round to shoot a 71 and claim a top 10 finish.
 
The Hornets will have a few weeks off before competing at the Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno, Calif., on Oct. 2-3.

Babic helped lead the Hornets to a second place finish at the WSU Cougar Cup at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Wash. The team's three-round total of 297-287-295-879 tied for the third-lowest in school history. Sacramento State finished behind Washington State, and beat out fellow Big Sky teams Idaho, Montana State and Idaho State.
 
Individually, the sophomore tied for second overall after shooting the second lowest score of her career after a 73-72-72 performance. Babic's total of 217 tied her for the seventh best outing in program history.
 
Sacramento State's next tournament is slated for Sept. 25-27, when the Hornets travel to Vail, Colo. to compete in the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
