Four members of the Sacramento State women’s golf team were honored as 2017-18 Women’s Golf Coach Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars.The four are comprised of senior Astha Madan, sophomores Sofie Babic and Nishtha Madan and freshman Corinne Viden.
Sacramento State’s men’s basketball, men’s cross country and women’s golf programs each received NCAA Public Recognition Awards for having Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores that rank among the top 10 percent nationally in their respective sports for the four-year period ending in 2016-17.
Sacramento State’s David Sutherland was named the 2018 Big Sky Jeff Smith Women’s Golf Coach of the Year, it was announced today. The award is the second straight coach of the year honor for Sutherland.
It took a record-breaking performance to halt the Sacramento State women’s golf team’s run of three consecutive tournament titles. Idaho completed its wire-to-wire path to the Big Sky Conference championship on Sunday by shooting 5-under par as a team. The Vandals finished the tournament with a total 866 to set the tournament record by two strokes. The Hornets were even during the third round and finished in second place with a total of 876 which ranks as the fourth best in conference history. The team has now finished in second place in four of the last five years and has been the runner-up seven times since 2009.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team finished with a total of 1-under par and had a 14-stroke improvement from the first day during the second round of the Big Sky Conference Championships on Saturday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Hornets totaled 287 during the round and moved into second place. Unfortunately, Idaho matched Sacramento State’s total and maintained a 5-stroke lead heading into the final round on Sunday.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team’s quest for a second consecutive Big Sky Conference title was off to a good start through the opening 14 holes of the first round on Monday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the final four holes were not as kind as the team slid to third place at the end of the round.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team placed all five members of its starting lineup on the Big Sky Conference first and second teams, it was announced today. Sophomores Sofie Babic and Nishtha Madan were part of the five-member first team while senior Astha Madan, junior Julia Becker and freshman Corinne Viden were named to the second team. Viden also earned the Big Sky Freshman of the Year award.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team continued to make history en route to its third consecutive team title on Tuesday. The Hornets finished first at the 20-team Wyoming Cowgirl Classic and won the event by 22 strokes. The team totaled 279-287-288-854 to set the school three-round record by nine strokes and also had three individuals in the top five as Sofie Babic was the medalist and Astha Madan and Julia Becker tied for second.
Behind a record-breaking first round, the Sacramento State women’s golf team jumped to an early lead during the first round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Monday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. The Hornets shot 279 in the opening round and followed with a score of 287 in the second round. The team’s two-round total of 566 leaves the team 14 strokes ahead of the next closest team headed into the final round on Tuesday.
Astha Madan drained a 30-foot putt on the 18th hole to secure the team title for the Sacramento State women’s golf team at the Sacramento State Invitational on Tuesday at Sierra View Country Club. Madan birdied her final four holes and helped the team overcome a 12-stroke deficit at the start of the round to win by two strokes.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team recorded its third best single-round score in school history and has three players among the top five during the first day of the Sacramento State Invitational on Monday at Sierra View Country Club.
The fourth annual Sacramento State Invitational returns to Sierra View Country Club in Roseville, Calif., on Mon.-Tue., March 19-20. The first day is scheduled for 36 holes with groups going off the first and 10th tees beginning at 8 a.m.. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with a single round which will also get under way at 8 a.m.

The Hornets shot 285-291-289-865 at Copper River Country Club and finished 18 strokes ahead of second-place Indiana. The score was the second best 54-hole total in Sacramento State history.
The Sacramento State women’s golf posted its third lowest round in school history during the opening day of the Fresno State Classic on Monday at Copper River CC. The Hornets shot 285 to finish 3-under par in the first round were even before play was halted in the second round due to darkness. Sacramento State leads Indiana by 17 strokes in the team standings with both teams having three golfers left on the course.
Freshman Corinne Viden led the Sacramento State women’s golf team with a 76 in the first round and a 75 in the second round of the Bruin Wave Invitational on Monday. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
Sofie Babic shot a 1-over par round of 73 and Nishtha Madan tied for fifth place to lead the Sacramento State women’s golf team at The Gold Rush on Tuesday. The Hornets finished tied for fifth place in the 14-team field. The team was tied with fellow Big Sky member Idaho for fifth place and was 16-shots of the pace of tournament champion Georgia.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team started its spring season on Monday at The Gold Rush at El Dorado GC. The Hornets are tied for fourth place at 23-over (302-297-599) along with Long Beach State and UC Irvine. The three teams are trailing Georgia (+15), Colorado State (+16) and BYU (+17) heading into the final round on Tuesday.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team was picked to repeat as the 2018 Big Sky Conference Championship, it was announced today by the conference office. The preseason poll is voted upon by the league’s head coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own team.
Sacramento State head women’s golf coach David Sutherland announced today that Miki Manta has signed a National Letter of Intent with the program. Manta will enroll at Sacramento State as a freshman in the fall of 2018.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team shot 1-over par in the final round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Wednesday to finish in third place. The Hornets totaled 300-286-289-875 to record the fourth best 54-hole score in school history.
Sophomore Nistha Madan set the Sacramento State record by shooting 5-under par 67 in the second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Tuesday. Madan’s performance followed a 77 in the morning and tied her for second place after the first day.
The Sacramento State women’s golf team completed its wire-to-wire run through the NM State Aggie Invitational, winning the team title by 20 strokes on Wednesday at the NM State Golf Course. The victory was the first for the team this season and its fourth in the last two years.

Astha Madan birdied five of her final six holes to finish the opening round of the NM State Aggie Invitational at 2-under par and help the Sacramento State women’s golf team take the team lead. Madan shot 70 and has a one-stroke lead in the field. Her efforts guided the Hornets to a 1-under par total of 287 which is seven strokes ahead of second place UTEP.
The Sacramento State women’s golf closed out the Golfweek Conference Challenge with its best team score of the tournament. The Hornets shot 291 during the final round to finish the day at 3-over par. The team was led by a 71 from Sofie Babic and also counted a pair of 73s from Astha Madan and Corinne Viden.
