FRESNO, Calif. — Senior Lisa Persson shot a career best 70 in the first round of the Fresno State Classic on Monday at Copper River Country Club.

Persson's opening round effort helped her and Sacramento State hold the lead following the morning session. The team is currently fifth with a two-round total of 300-312-612 and Persson is tied for sixth.

Boise State shot a 1-over par 289 in the second round and leads by two strokes over Cal State Northridge heading into Tuesday's final round. Clariss Guce of Northridge leads the individual race by three strokes after carding rounds of 76-67-143.

Persson began her first round with birdies on the par-5 fourth and par-3 fifth. A strong of nine pars was followed by a birdie on the par-5 15th. Her only bogey on the first round came on the par-4 first. In the second round, Persson double bogeyed the fourth hole and bogeyed the fifth. She eventually moved to 6-over after a bogey not he par-4 16th. A birdie on the par-3 17th was her only one of the round and came before two more bogeys on Nos. 1 and 2.

Tiffany Nichols is tied for 15th place after shooting 76-77-153. The senior had the most consistent scores on the team between the two rounds. She birdied the par-4 sixth (her second hole) in the first round but gave the stroke back with a bogey on No. 7. The rest of her round consisted of 11 pars and four bogeys. In the second round, she was just 2-over through her first 15 holes. A double bogey on the par-5 second and a bogey on the par-4 third completed her day.

Sophomore Natalie Bodnar overcame a first round 81 to lead the team with a 75 in the second round. Bodnar's opening round consisted of a birdie, five pars, a double bogey and a triple bogey. She bounced back in the afternoon with the help of birdies on Nos. 13 and 1 (both par-4) and not having anything more than a bogey.

Rockelle Sande matched Bodnar's score in reverse. Sande bogeyed her first hole (No. 7) and was event after a birdie on the par-5 12th. Three straight bogeys (Nos. 14-16) took her to 3-over before a birdie on the par-5 fourth. Her first round ended with a bogey on No. 6. Sande had two birdies on the second round to go along with 11 bogeys.

Sagee Palavivatana is in 41st place after shooting 79-84-163. The junior had four bogeys over her first seven holes before the first of her two birdies. In total, she had two birdies, seven bogeys and a double bogey. Palavivatana did not have a birdie in the second round which was comprised of eight bogeys and two double bogeys.

The tournament concludes with the third round on Tuesday which begins at 9 a.m.
