PERSSON SHOOTS 71, WOMEN'S GOLF IN SECOND AT RED ROCKS

SEDONA, Ariz. — The Sacramento State women's golf team recorded its third best round of the season and is in second place following the first round of the Red Rocks Invitational on Saturday at Oak Creek CC.

The Hornets shot 301 in the first round and are two strokes behind Xavier for the team lead. Sacramento State's score only ranks behind a 299 and 300 this season which both came at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The Hornets went on to finish first in that event.

On Saturday, Lisa Persson paced the team with a 1-under par round of 71. The senior's mark is her season best and ties for her second best during her Sacramento State career. Her score ties her with Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit and is one stroke back of NAU's Jacquie LeMarr for the individual lead.

Freshman Chloe Bartek is tied for 11th is tied for 11th place with a round of 76. Natalie Bodnar shot 77 and is tied for 24th. The team also counted a 78 from Tiffany Nichols who is tied for 28th.

Sacramento State has the best score among the seven Big Sky schools in the tournament. Host Northern Arizona is fourth, and second among Big Sky teams, with a first round score of 305. Southern Utah totaled 315, Eastern Washington 319, Weber State 324, Northern Coloado 336 and North Dakota 353.

The tournament concludes with the second round on Sunday.
