WOMEN'S GOLF FINISHES SEVENTH AT WASHINGTON STATE

PULLMAN, Wash. — Senior Lisa Persson shot 75 and freshman Chloe Bartek 76 to pace the Sacramento State women's golf team in the final round of the WSU Cougar Cup on Tuesday at the Palouse Ridge GC.

In heavy rain, Persson continued her hot play from the second round on Monday and finished tied for 20th overall at 83-76-75-234. She started her day on the ninth hole with a birdie on the par-5 but was 1-over after alternating pars and bogeys over the next four holes. Persson used birdies on the par-4 14th and par-5 17th to stand at 1-under through her first nine holes. However, she bogeyed four of her final eight holes to finish at 3-over.

Bartek was able to battle the elements in her native Pacific Northwest as the Vancouver, Wash., native ran off nine consecutive pars after opening with two bogeys. Bartek was tripped up by three straight bogeys (Nos. 3-5) before ending with a birdie on the par-4 seventh and three pars. Overall, the freshman finished tied for 31st place at 78-83-76-237.

Tiffany Nichols ranked second on the team and tied for 26th in the tournament at 76-82-78-236. Nichols was 4-over through her first three holes but earned one back with a birdie on the par-3 11th. After trading three birdies and two bogeys she double bogeyed the par-5 17th and birdied the par-5 18th. Her final seven holes consisted of a birdie, five pars and a bogey.

Sagee Palavivatana matched Nichols' 78 and tied for 43rd with a total of 75-82-83-240. On Tuesday, Palavivatana had a birdie, eight pars, seven bogeys and two double bogeys.

Nicolette Bondura finished in 56th  after shooting 85 in the final round. Bondura had two birdies, seven pars, three bogeys and five double bogeys.

Rockelle Sande who was competing as an individual, tied for 43rd with a total of 81-83-76-240. In her final round, Sande had a birdie, 12 pars and five bogeys.

Host Washington State won the team title by 12 strokes over Gonzaga. WSU was led by medalist Mallory Kent who shot 70-70-72-212.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Rose City Collegiate on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Aurora, Ore.
