CHANDLER, Ariz. — Sacramento State senior Kercia Brakel matched her career best with a 1-over par 73 during the second round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday at Ocotillo Golf Resort.

While Brakel's round was the lowest by a Hornet golfer, it did not count toward the team total as she is competing as an individual. The five Sacramento State golfers combined to count a round of 309 and moved the team into sixth place. The Hornets sit at 634 through the second round and rank third among Big Sky Conference schools in the tournament. Boise State remains the overall leader at 608. She stayed their until a bogey on the par-4 14th returned her to even and a bogey on the par-5 18th moved her to 1-over a the midway point. She began the front side of the course with four pars before a bogeying the par-4 fifth. She dropped back to 1-over with a birdie on the par-3 seventh. Brakel is tied for tenth place with a 36-hole total of 153.

Tiffany Nichols had the lowest round among the Hornets in the lineup on Tuesday. Nichols shot 74 and is tied for 48th overall. She began with a birdie on the first hole and then strung together eight pars. A bogey on No. 10 and a double bogey on the par-3 12th moved her into the black. Three pars were followed by a bogey on the par-3 16th, a par on No. 17 and a birdie on the par-5 18th.

Sagee Palavivatana is tied for 14th overall with rounds of 78-76-154. Palavivatana was 2-over on both sides of the course. She had three bogeys through the first six holes and was 3-over before a birdie on the par-4 ninth. She bogeyed Nos. 10 and 12 and had seven pars to end her round.
