SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Maranne Johnson was named the Big Sky Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Johnson had a huge weekend for the Hornets, averaging 28.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game in two conference games this past week.
Her weekend was highlighted by a historic Thursday night performance against Northern Arizona. Johnson scored a career-high 41 on 15-of-32 shooting, also career-high numbers.
With 41 points, Johnson tied the Big Sky's record for points in a single game while also setting a Hornets record for most points scored in a conference game.
Additionally, Johnson became the third highest scorer in Sacramento State women's basketball history with 1,543 points.
Johnson's strong play continued Saturday as the Hornets hosted Southern Utah on Senior Day. The senior guard scoring 15 points and dishing out six assists in Sacramento State's thrilling 79-77 win at the buzzer.
The award is the first of the season for Johnson and the second for the Hornets this year (also, Hannah Friend, Feb. 13). In total, the recognition is the fourth for Johnson, who was named the Big Sky's Player of the Week three times as a junior.
