SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women's basketball team continues their road trip as they travel to Idaho for a Saturday matinee game. How To Watch

Saturday's game can be seen live online at watchbigsky.com on Pluto TV channel 242. As always, live stats for Saturday's game can be found online at hornetstats.com.

The Starting Five

  1. Sophomore guard Hannah Friend recorded her third double-double in as many games in Sacramento State's last game at Eastern Washington. Friend put up 22 points and pulled in 10 rebounds in the effort.
  2. Senior point guard Justyce Dawson set a new career-high with 17 points in the team's last game. Previously, Dawson's career-high was 14, a total she has reached twice (last was March 1 of last season on the road at North Dakota).
  3. With eight points in Thursday night's game, Maranne Johnson moved into fourth all-time for most career points in Sacramento State women's basketball program history with 1,439. The senior guard hopped both Fantasia Hillard and Sarah Stapp (1,438 points).
  4. Sophomore forward Kennedy Nicholas pulled in a career-high 15 rebounds in the team's last game at Eastern Washington. 11 of those 15 rebounds came on the offensive end. With the effort, Nicholas passed her previous mark of 14 rebounds.
  5. Idaho enters Saturday's game riding a season-best five-game win streak, including a narrow 61-60 defeat of Portland State on Thursday. At home, the Vandals are 4-1 since the start of Big Sky play. Overall, they average 72.0 points per game.

By The Numbers

4: The ranking for Maranne Johnson on Sacramento State's all-time career points leaders. She is fourth all-time with 1,439 career points.

15: The number of rebounds for Kennedy Nicholas in Sacramento State's last game against Eastern Washington, a new career high.

17: The number of consecutive points scored by Justyce Dawson Thursday at Eastern Washington, a new career high.

Scouting Idaho

Idaho enters Saturday afternoon's game against the Hornets with an 11-11 record, including 7-3 in Big Sky Conference play. They are currently riding a five-game win streak, a streak that includes three straight home wins. Overall, however, the Vandals are just 5-4 at home. Idaho comes into the game averaging an even 72.0 points per game while their opponents average 73.5 points per game. Like the Hornets, Idaho loves to shoot from outside and they currently lead the Big Sky Conference in total three-point field goal attempts (595), three-point field goals made (215), and three-point field goals made per game (10.2). Their offense is led by perhaps the best 1-2 punch in the Big Sky of Mikayla Ferenz and Taylor Pierce. Ferenz, a two-time Big Sky Player of the Week, leads the conference with 22.2 points per game. Pierce leads the conference with 82 made three-pointers, 3.90 made three-pointers per game, and is tied for the conference lead with 773:00 minutes played. At the helm for the Vandals is 10th year head coach Jon Newlee.

About Last Game

Sacramento State played what was perhaps their best road game of the year and their best all-around team game of the year but still came up short in Cheney against Eastern Washington. Multiple players had career nights. Hannah Friend recorded her third straight double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling in eight rebounds while racking up five blocks and five steals, both career marks. Kennedy Nicholas had another career performance, pulling in 15 rebounds, passing her previous best of 14. 11 of those 15 boards came on the offensive end. Justyce Dawson scored 17 points for the Hornets, also setting a new career best. As a team, the Hornets battled back from an 11-point first quarter deficit to make it a four-point game midway through the fourth quarter, but were unable to get over the top on the Eagles.

Against Idaho

  • The Hornets are 5-9 against Idaho since the start of the 1992-93 season, including 1-0 this year. In Moscow, the Hornets are 1-4 against the Vandals.
  • Sacramento State's only conference win this season came at home against Idaho, a 79-64 win at the Nest on Jan. 4.
  • The Hornets' only win in Moscow came during the 2015-16 season, a tightly contested 94-91 victory.
  • Idaho has been a member of three different conference since the first meeting between the two schools in 1992 (Big Sky, Big West, and WAC).

Big Sky Breakdown

  • Entering Saturday's games, Sacramento State is second to last in the Big Sky Conference with a 1-8 conference record. They are only a half game better than Northern Arizona (1-9)
  • Despite being picked 9th and 10th in the Media and Coaches' preseason polls, respectively, Weber State sits atop the conference with a 7-2 Big Sky record. Their 15-5 overall record (.750) is also the best in the conference.
  • Four teams - Northern Colorado, Montana State, Idaho, and Montana - are all tied for second with a 7-3 record.
  • Eight of the 12 teams in the conference have a winning record.

Series Sweep

The Hornets have a chance for their only series sweep of the year as they face Idaho for the second time this season on Saturday. Sacramento State's only conference win this season was last month at home against the Vandals. Sacramento State has swept Idaho once before, during the 2014-15 season.

Johnson Jumping the Charts

Senior guard Maranne Johnson scored eight points Thursday against Eastern Washington, moving her into the number four spot for most career points scored in Sacramento State women's basketball history. Now with 1,439 career points, Johnson leapfrogged both Fantasia Hillard (2011-15) and Sarah Stapp (1992-96), who are now tied for fifth with 1,438 career points.

Double Trouble

Just one week after recording her first career double-double, sophomore guard Hannah Friend recorded her third in as many games for Sacramento State. Neither were career-highs, but Friend scored 22 points on 8-of-24 shooting while pulling in 10 rebounds (three offensive). Over her last three games, Friend is averaging 21.3 points and 12 rebounds.

More Double Talk

With three double-doubles, Hannah Friend is tied with sophomore forward Kennedy Nicholas for the Sacramento State team lead. Kyhonta Doughty and Maranne Johnson each also have one double-double this year.

Dawson Puts up Points

Senior point guard Justyce Dawson set a new career record in Sacramento State's last game, scoring a career-high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. The senior was 0-for-4 from three, but 7-of-9 from everywhere else. Dawson's previous career high was 14 points, a total she reached twice before.

Rebound To Nicholas

Sophomore forward Kennedy Nicholas collected a career-most 15 rebounds Thursday at Eastern Washington, passing her previous high of 14 (Dec. 15, 2017 at San Francisco). Nicholas is averaging 6.5 rebounds per game, the most of her career.

Crash the Boards

Sacramento State pulled in a season-high 54 rebounds in Thursday night's game against eastern Washington, passing their previous high of 50 rebounds against Weber State on Jan. 18. 26 of those 54 rebounds came on the offensive end of the court, another season-best (previous 20, 3 times, vs. Antelope Valley, Eastern Washington, Weber State).

Leaders Among Their Peers

Putting Up Shots

The Hornets took 82 shots against the Eagles on Thursday, their most in a single game this season. Their previous high was 73 field goals attempted, a number they reached twice (at West Virginia, 11/14/17; vs. Idaho State, 1/20/18). The program record for field goals attempted in a single game is 111, set on Dec. 6, 2015 at No. 17 California.

Start Streak Snapped

Senior guard Maranne Johnson started her first game on the bench this season in Sacramento State's last game, snapping her consecutive start streak at 20 games (dating back to the 2016-17 season).

Losing Streak Blues

Sacramento State has lost seven straight games, their longest streak since dropping seven straight games during the 2010-11 season. That seven game losing streak was part of a much longer 19-game losing streak.

Big Sky Record Setter

  • Maranne Johnson set the new Big Sky Conference record for career made three-pointers earlier this season, passing Montana State's Katie Bussey (2008-12) on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017. She currently has 275 career threes. She is also approaching the Big Sky Conference record for career steals.
  • She is fifth all-time with 302 career steals in the Big Sky, seven back of former Hornets player Fantasia Hillard (308) and 45 back of the all-time leader, Northern Colorado's D'Shara Strange (246, 2010-15).

Sacramento State Top-10 Watch: Points

Maranne Johnson is currently fourth all-time with 1,439 points for her career. She is now just 65 points back of Kylie Kuhns (2009-13) and her 1,504 career points.

Sacramento State Top-10 Watch: Assists

Justyce Dawson is seventh for most career assists in Sacramento State women's basketball program history with 276. The senior point guard is two back of Alle Moreno (278, 1987-91).

Sacramento State Top-10 Watch: Steals

Maranne Johnson continues to close in on the Sacramento State women's hoops program record for career steals. Johnson now has 302 for her career, just seven off the program mark of 308 (Fantasia Hilliard, 2011-15).
