SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State senior guard Alle Moreno has been selected as the Big Sky Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday. Moreno was also chosen as the National Mid-Major Player of the Week as selected by College Sports Madness.
The Hornets have now garnered Big Sky Player of the Week honors in three of the four weeks in which the team has competed this season. The Big Sky is one of 16 conferences classified as Mid-Major by College Sports Madness and Moreno became the first Big Sky player to earn the national honor this season.
Moreno scored a career-high 28 points against San Jose State and helped her team to a pair of wins last week. For the week she averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 44.1% from the field and added six steals while only committing two turnovers in 73 minutes played.
Against San Jose State Moreno scored 22 of her 28 points in the second half, shooting 9-of-15 from the field and 4-of-9 from 3-point range. She also tallied four rebounds, three assists, and two steals while playing 37 minutes and leading the Hornets to a 103-99 win.
On Thursday Moreno helped lead the Hornets to a 94-92 victory over previously undefeated Saint Mary's with 13 points, five rebounds, four steals, and a career-high tying seven assists.
Moreno is averaging 17.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game this season and has knocked down 20 three-pointers. She is also just four points away from becoming the 11th player in program history to score 1,000 career points.
