OGDEN, Utah – Following a career-best weekend in which she totaled 30 points and 12 rebounds, Sacramento State junior forward Shanti Smith has been named the Big Sky Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The Hornets have earned the honor in each of the first two weeks of the 2013-14 season as senior Alle Moreno garnered the award last week.
Smith had a career-high 15 points in each of the Hornets two games over the weekend, averaging 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 41.7% from the field and 35.7% from 3-point range with only one turnover in 43 minutes.
She led the Hornets to a 97-85 upset of Oregon on Sunday with 15 points, eight rebounds and a steal without a turnover in 22 minutes, nailing a pair of 3-pointers and going 5-of-5 from the free throw line. On Friday at Oregon State Smith established a new career-high with 15 points while shooting 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range, adding four rebounds and a block.
Smith had a team-best five 3-point makes for the weekend and is averaging 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds for the season. The Denver native leads the team with five blocks and has five steals while only committing three turnovers in 78 minutes played.
