TRACK & FIELD TO COMPETE IN PAIR OF SOUTHERN CAL MEETS THIS WEEKEND

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field teams will again split up this weekend to compete in a pair of Southern California meets. The teams runners and jumpers will participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific on April 18-19. The throwers will compete at the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State on April 19-20.

The Bryan Clay Invitational will be one of the largest meets the Hornets will take part in the this season. The two-day meet features nearly 4,800 competitors from over 100 teams across the country. Sacramento State will start its meet on Thursday with Rachel Victor running the steeplechase and Andres Sandoval taking part in the 5K. The rest of the action will all come on Friday.

FloTrack will provide a video stream of the Bryan Clay Invitational. Viewers must purchase a one-month subscription to the service.

The Hornets will send five throwers to the Beach Invitational. Rhaven Dean, Jelaia Jones, Morgan Jones and Shantel Nnaji will represent the women while Kyle Peterson will be the lone male for Sacramento State. The hammer throw will be held on Friday a day before the shot put and discus. Each throwing event is divided into two sections (gold and open). Jelaia Jones (shot put) and Nnaji (discus) will each compete in the gold section for the women. Peterson is entered in the gold section of the men's discus and hammer.

After this weekend, the lone event left for Sacramento State before the Big Sky Championships will be the Causeway Classic dual meet at UC Davis on April 26. The team will then have a week off before heading to Missoula, Mont., for the Big Sky meet on May 8-11. A complete list of those student-athletes is below (includes wind-aided marks and times):
