KENNY MCDANIEL NAMED BIG SKY WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD COACH OF THE YEAR

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — After leading the Sacramento State women to the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championship, Director of Track & Field Kenny McDaniel was named the Big Sky Women's Indoor Coach of the Year, it was announced today.

Sacramento State claimed its seventh Big Sky women's indoor title on Feb. 23 in Bozeman, Mont. The Hornets totaled 100 points with a balanced attack that featured 12 all-conference selections. The team was led by senior Emilia Del Hoyo who scored 18 points after finishing third in the pentathlon, 60-hurdles and long jump. Sophomore Brittany Patterson also defended her title by winning the triple jump.

"What an honor it is to be named the Big Sky Coach of the Year," McDaniel said. "I would like to acknowledge our entire staff because without them this wouldn't have been possible. Their day to day dedication to this program culminated at the Big Sky meet. This is a team award not just my award. My involvement is a small percentage in this overall success. The student-athletes deserve a lot of credit for believing in us as their coaches."

Sacramento State opens the outdoor season on March 8-9 at the Aggie Open in Davis, Calif.
