ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Members of the Sacramento State indoor track and field teams combined for eight top five finishes during the second day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Saturday. The men's and women's team each accounted for four athletes in the top five scattered over six events.
Jelaia Jones and Morgan Jones finished second and fifth in the women's shot put. Jelaia Jones had a best of 46-11.75 while Morgan's long was 44-00.50. Their performances came a day after Morgan Jones was third and Jelaia Jones was fourth in the weight throw.
Shilah Bedingfield added a fourth place finish in the 400. The sophomore ran 55.85 which was just off her season best of 55.53 at the Ed Jacoby Invitational.
Amy Quinones added her second top five finish of the weekend after placing fifth in the mile. Quinones had a time of 4:57.93 on Saturday. She was third in the 3K on Friday night after running 10:11.53 which moved her into 10th place in school history.
The women's team also featured a pair of personal bests on Saturday. Emilia Del Hoyo ran 8.64 in the semifinals of the 60-hurdles to better her time of 8.71 which was set two years ago. Tessa Davis cleared 11-08.00 in the pole vault surpassing her previous best by a quarter of an inch and take sole possession of 10th place in school history. Both Del Hoyo and Davis finished in 10th place in their respective events.
Adrienne Jackson and Ryan Tennant were third and fourth, respectively, in the men's triple jump. Jackson had a season best jump of 46-11.75 on his first attempt of the day. Tennant jumped 46-04.75 on his fifth.
Elijah Changco was fifth in the mile and the men's 4x400 relay also placed fifth. Changco ran 4:23.94 in his first indoor mile of the year. The men's relay team was comprised of Calvin Spellman, Clinton Spellman, Jose Rodriguez and Isaiah Marable.
Kyle Peterson, Marable and Calvin Spellman all recorded season bests in their events. Peterson had a shot put of 50-04.75 which placed him ninth in the meet. Marable and Calvin Spellman each set their marks in the 400 with times of 50.58 and 51.11, respectively.
Sacramento State will close out the regular season portion of its indoor schedule next week at the Husky Classic in Seattle. The team will then travel to Montana State for the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 21-23.
