TRACK & FIELDS HEADS TO UCLA FOR RAFER JOHNSON/JACKIE JOYNER-KERSEE INVITATIONAL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The first of consecutive trips to Southern California for the Sacramento State track and field teams begins this weekend as the Hornets will participate in the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational on Saturday at UCLA. The meet begins with field events at 8:30 a.m. Track events will start at 2:40 p.m. and are scheduled to conclude at 6 p.m.

Sacramento State will be joined by UCLA, Texas A&M, Cal Poly and San Francisco as well as a handful of junior colleges. The Texas A&M men are ranked fourth while the Aggie women are sixth in the latest USTFCCCA poll. The San Francisco women's team is also in the top 25 as the Dons are 20th.

The Hornets last competed at the Mondo Team Challenge on March 31. The Sacramento State women finished first in the meet while the men finished in second place. The women received individual event victories from Danielle Brandon in the pole vault and Brittany Patterson in the triple jump. The men had victories from Andre Lindsey in the 110-hurdles, Aidan Schraer in the steeplechase, Kyle Peterson in the discus and Andrew Stich in the javelin.

TRIPLE THREAT
Sacramento State accounts for 26 marks ranked among the top five in the Big Sky heading into this week's competitions. Six of those come in the triple jump where Hornets are ranked 1-3 in both genders. Jah Strange leads the Big Sky met with a mark of 51-03.50. Darius Armstead has also gone over 50 feet this year at 50-10.75 and Mohamed Abdullah is third at 49-05.00. All three will compete in the event at UCLA.

Freshman Brittany Patterson leads the conference in the women's triple jump at 40-05.50. Nirie Boglino and Nashedah Mu'min follow at 39-07.00 and 39-04.00, respectively.

PUTTING IN THE MILEAGE
Sacramento State will have eight student-athletes (four men/four women) doubling in the 1500 and 3K at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational. The pair of Amy Quinones and Cagnei Duncan will take it a little further as the duo are also entered in the 800.

The only other Hornets competing in three events at the meet are Kathleen Durand (SP/DIS/HAM), Max Jette (100H/400H/PV) and Kyle Peterson (SP/DIS/HAM).
