WOMEN WIN TEAM TITLE, MEN FINISH THIRD AT MONDO TEAM CHALLENGE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State individuals recorded six event victories and the women's team claimed the team title at the Mondo Team Challenge on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The women scored 140 points to finished just ahead of Southern Illinois (132.5) and UNLV (126). The Hornet men finished in third place with 130 points placing the team behind SIU (178) and Long Beach State (134).

Sacramento State will have a week off before heading to UCLA for the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational on April 14.

WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

Freshman Shilah Bedingfield scored for the team in the 200 and 400. Bedingfield was just off her season bests in both events, running 24.31 in the 200 to place fifth and 55.33 in the 400 to finish in second place.

Denise Reis was second in the 800 with a time of 2:09.92. That mark left Reis just four-tenths of a second behind the winner and was .53 seconds behind her career best which came last season.

Amy Quinones was fifth in the 800 and fourth in the 1500 to add to the team's total. Quinones started her day by running 4:33.92 in the 1500. She was with the front pack of three for most of the race before falling off the pace during the final lap. Quinones returned to run 2:12.12 in the 800.

Carly Schulz and Cassidy Zurn finished second and third, respectively, in the 400-hurdles. Schulz posted a career-best time of 59.68 which was the fifth fastest in school history. She also placed sixth in the 100-hurdles with a time of 14.54. Zurn was third in the 400H after running 1:00.57. That time was just .37 seconds behind her PR which was set a year ago.

Gracie Albano completed the scorers for the team by finishing third in the steeplechase. Albano completed the 3K course in 11:12.95.

A week after running 3:42.56 to move into sixth place in school history, the team of Zurn, Bedingield, Angelica Cusworth and Carly Schulz jumped into a tie for second place in the Hornet record book with their performance at the Mondo Team Challenge. The 4x400 relay team ran 3:40.25 to finish in second place in the meet.

MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

Sacramento State finished 2-3-4 in the 1500 to score 18 points. Elijah Changco led the trio with a career best of 3:57.84. Tyler Sickler used a strong kick to produce a career best time of 4:00.06 to place third and Tristen Thomson was fourth in 4:01.04.

Andre Lindsey edged UC Irvine's Asa Allen for first place in the 110-hurdles. Lindsey had a narrow lead over Allen before the Anteater was able to close the gap over the last hurdle. Lindsey had a better lean at the line and crossed with a time of 14.35 seconds. Lindsey was also sixth in the 100 at 10.84 seconds.

Alec Foster scored for the team in the 200 and 400. Foster had a time of 22.10 to finish eighth in the 200. He also ran 48.21 to finish in third place in the 400. The team had three other scorers in the 400 as Isaiah Marable was fifth (48.82), Jabari Reynolds was sixth (48.84) and Frederick Wagner V finished eighth (49.22).

Aidan Schraer claimed victory in the steeplechase with a career best time of 9:25.84. Schraer controlled the pace of the race and was able to withstand a hard charge down the home stretch for victory.

The team also picked up points from Max Jette in the 110H (6th, 15.34) and 400H (5th, 55.19); Tre Lockwood (7th, 1:54.82) and Changco (8th 1:55.23) in the 800 and Demetrius Douglas in the 400H (8th, 1:00.86)

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

Freshman Brittany Patterson moved into 10th place in school history after winning the triple jump. Patterson had a leap of 40-05.50 which is the best in the Big Sky this season. Nirie Boglino was third at 39-07.00 and Nashedah Mu'Min was fourth with a best of 39-04.00. Those two distances are the second and third best marks in the conference this year. Tia Cooke also scored for the team and produced the fifth longest Big Sky mark with a triple jump of 37-07.75.

Danielle Brandon cleared 12-11.50 to win the pole vault. That height placed her four inches beyond the rest of the field.

Sacramento State had scorers in all four throwing events. Jelaia Jones was second in the shot put with a best of 47-11.75. Jones moved into fourth place in the Sacramento State record book and now leads the Big Sky in 2018. Morgan Jones also had PR to tie for seventh in the event. Jones' time is the third best in the conference this year.

Adora Garrick had a season best to place seventh in the discus at 141-10. Kathleen Durand was eighth in the hammer at 168-03. Julia Grimm, who is the Big Sky leader in the javelin, had a throw of 136-00 to place third on Saturday. Rhaven Dean finished in sixth place (114-08) and Selena Cisneros-Haefke was eighth (111-03).

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

Kyle Peterson finished first in the discus with a career best of 173-05. That toss moved him to the top of the Big Sky leaderboard this season and is the fourth longest in program history. Peterson was also fifth in the hammer with a long of 173-02.

Mohamed Abdullah and Darius Armstead each placed among the top four in the triple jump. Abdullah had a season best of 49-05.00 to finish in second place. Armstead jumped 48-11.75 to finish in fourth place.

Jevin Kitchen and Quan Phun finished in fourth place in the high jump and pole vault, respectively. Kitchen cleared 6-04.00 while Phun was successful at 14-03.25 in his first competition at Sacramento State.

Frederick Wagner V placed third in the javelin at 146-01.
