SEATTLE — The Sacramento State track & field teams drew closed a three-day competition weekend with four additional top 10 school records on Sunday at the UW Open. The meet came one day after the two-day Husky Classic.
All four marks on Sunday were set by Hornet women. On the track, Denise Reis ran 2:10.54 to move into fourth place in Hornet history. Reis' time comes in one of the most competitive events at Sacramento State as two of the top three times in the 800 belong to All-Americans Lea Wallace and Renisha Robinson.
Gracie Albano added her second top 10 mark of the weekend. Albano posted the third fastest 5K all-time by a Hornet on Friday night and moved into ninth place in the 3K on Sunday. The Nipomo, Calif., ran 10:06.04 at the UW Classic and lowered her time in the event by 16 seconds.
Jelaia Jones posted career bests in both the shot put and weight throw. Jones was third in the shot put at the meet and is now fifth in school history with a mark of 47-03.00. She was also third in the weight throw after throwing 57-07.75 to move into sixth place in the Hornet record book. Jones also jumped into second place in the Big Sky this season in the shot put and is third in the conference in the weight throw.
Emilia Del Hoyo added a second place finish in the triple jump with a career best of 38-06.25 and was one of four Hornet women to set career bests during the meet. The other three came from Shilah Bedingfield in the 400 (57.33), Selena Cisneros-Haefke in the shot put (39-01.75) and Kathleen Durand in the weight throw (52-03.75). Durand set a PR in the event in back-to-back days.
The men had three athletes set career bests in the mile. The trio was led by Elijah Changco who ran 4:17.99 and just missed moving into the Sacramento State top 10. Tristen Thomson had a time of 4:19.06 and Aidan Schraer ran 4:20.23.
Freshman Jevin Kitchen placed third in the high jump and is tied for seventh in the Big Sky this year. Kitchen cleared 6-06.75 to surpass his previous best by 1.25 inches.
The Hornet men also had two individual event winners during the day. Andre Lindsey finished first in the 60-hurdles in 8.07 for his second-fastest time of the year. Kyle Peterson was first in the weight throw at 59-08.25 and placed third in the shot put at 51-03.75.
Sacramento State will have a week off from competition before heading to the Big Sky Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Feb. 22-24.
