WOMEN PICKED SECOND, MEN THIRD IN BIG SKY PREASEASON INDOOR POLL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's indoor track & field teams are still two weeks away from the official start to their season but were both selected to finish among the top three in the Big Sky Conference Preseason Indoor Track & Field poll, it was announced today. The Hornet women were selected to finish second while the men were tabbed to finish third in a vote of the league's head coaches.

Northern Arizona was unanimously selected to win both the men's and women's titles which will be decided on their home trac in Flagstaff, Ariz., in February. The Lumberjack women were closely followed by Sacramento State (116), Montana (107), Montana State (104) and Weber State (102) with each school totaling over 100 points.

In the men's poll, the top four teams from last season's preseason poll remained the same. Southern Utah was picked to finish second with 130 points. Sacramento State received 114 points to edge Montana State (113) for third place.

The Hornet men and women each return a Big Sky indoor champion for the 2018 season. The men will be represented by Darius Armstead who finished first in the triple jump last season and set the school record during the season. Danielle Brandon, who won the Big Sky indoor crown in 2016, returns for her senior season after placing second a year ago.

Sacramento State is one of the last team's in the Big Sky Confernece to begin its indoor season. Selected members of the team will compete at the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., on Jan. 12-13. The first full meet will come on Jan. 20 at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Boise State. The team will compete in five meets before the Big Sky Championships.
