ARMSTEAD BREAKS LONG-STANDING SCHOOL RECORD AT HORNET INVITATIONAL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Two busy days of track & field came to a close on Saturday and saw the Hornets record eight school top 10 marks, including shattering a long-standing record at the Hornet Invitational. The meet was team scored and the Hornet men finished third in a tight battle. Big Sky rival Weber State won the competition with 166 points while Cal was second at 164. The Hornets were close behind with 150, nearly 100 points ahead of fourth-place Stanford (57). The Sacramento State women were second with 136.5 points placing the team only behind Cal (150).

MEN'S FIELD NOTES

• JC transfer Darius Armstead continued his destruction of the Hornet record book, winning the triple jump with a mark of 51-11.25 which is the best in NCAA Div. I this season by 4.25 inches. Armstead also jumped to the top of the Sacramento State top 10, breaking the record of 51-07.00 set by Ray Price in 1970. That mark was the oldest record standing for the school.

Mohamed Abdullah finished fifth in the triple jump with a best of 48-01.25 to move into fifth place in school history. The success of Armstead and Abdullah is no shock as the Hornet men ranked among the nation's leaders in the event during the indoor season.

• Sophomore Daniel Onuoha was third in the high jump with a best of 6-08.75.

Kyle Peterson placed fifth in the discus after a throw of 164-09.

WOMEN'S FIELD NOTES

Nirie Boglino was third in the triple jump with a best of 39-09.25.

• Sophomore Abby Taylor long jumped 18-06.50 to place fifth.

Michael Turner completed the top five finishers for the men by placing fourth in the long jump with a best of 23-10.75.

Ashley Kittle snuck into the top 10 with a time of 2:10.02 which places her 10th in the Hornet record book.

Amari Jones used a slightly wind-aided time of 12.03 to finish second in the 100. She also led the team in the 200 at 25.30 to tie for ninth place in the meet.

• Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams finished among the top three in the meet. The 4x100 team of Kristen Robinson, Amari Jones, Carly Schulz and Amari Sperling ran 47.32 to place third. Zurn, Angelica Cusworth, Schulz and Joy Weems were second in the 4x400 in 3:46.61.
