ARMSTEAD DOES IT AGAIN, SETS SCHOOL TRIPLE JUMP RECORD AT UW OPEN

SEATTLE — The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams capped a busy weekend with another record setting performance at the UW Open on Sunday.

The meet followed two days of action at the Husky Classic also in Seattle. The Hornets will next compete at the Big Sky Championships beginning on Thursday, Feb. 23.

Men's Field Notes

• Just one day after setting the school record in the triple jump which had stood since 1998, junior Darius Armstead shattered his own mark. Armstead won the event and become the first Hornet to eclipse 50-feet in the triple jump, with a mark of 50-07.50. That distance moved Armstead to the top of the Big Sky list this season and ties him for 46th nationally in Div. I. At the Husky Classic, Armstead set his best attempt on his first jump of the day. He waited until his final attempt at the UW Open to set the record.

Kyle Peterson placed second in the weight throw with a personal best of 58-08.50. Peterson jumped to seventh place in school history and is now fifth in the Big Sky while improving on his previous best by 18.75 inches.

• The Hornet men had five other top five finishes in the field events. Michael Turner was second and Cory Barger was fourth in the long jump. Turner had a leap of 23-01.75 while Barger finished with a best of 22-09.25. Daniel Onuoha used a season best of 6-06.75 in the high jump to place second. Jah Strange finished in fourth in the triple jump with a best of 48-02.50.
