DISTANCE RUNNERS SET PERSONAL BESTS AT OPENING DAY OF HUSKY CLASSIC

SEATTLE — The Sacramento State distance runners recorded four school top 10 performances during the first day of the Husky Classic on Friday at Dempsey Indoor Track.

In the women's 5K, Haley Heinemann ran 17:36.08 and Emma Armstrong crossed the line in 18:19.12. Those times placed the two third and sixth, respectively, in school history. Heinemann's time was the fastest by a Hornet women since Rachel Mitchell (16:49.39) and Lauren Mugnaini (17:03.42) set the two fastest marks all-time at Sacramento State at the meet in 2013.

The men also saw two top 10 performances as Sammy Scheuer ran 15:01.94 and Ryan Salcido had a time of 15:22.97. Scheuer moved into third place in the Hornet record book and only trails Reesey Byers (14:24.46) and Mark Frazier (14:52.31) who each set their marks in 2013.

The men's and women's 200 also took place during the opening day of the meet. Amari Jones led the women with a time of 25.57. Eric Adorno had the fastest men time in 22.32.

Kyle Peterson was the lone thrower to compete on Friday. He had a weight throw of 54-05.25.

The remaining events will take place on Saturday. Sacramento State will also compete at the UW Open on Sunday.
