TRACK & FIELD WINS MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TITLES AT SNAKE RIVER OPEN

POCATELLO, Idaho — The Sacramento State indoor track & field team recorded 14 event victories and set seven school top 10 marks en route to a pair of team wins during the second day of the Snake River Open at Idaho State.

The Hornet women finished with 239 points to easily finish ahead of fellow Big Sky foes Weber State (165), Idaho State (96) and Southern Utah (69). Sacramento State's men team finished with 166 points to edge Weber State by 11. Idaho State was third with 138 points and Southern Utah totaled 93 to place fourth.

Max Jette, who entered the day leading the heptathlon through four events, pulled away from the field to win easily. Jette totaled 5,089 points in the seven events and was 320 points ahead of the next closest competitor. His score was the best in the Big Sky Conference this season and moved him into third place in Sacramento State history.

Women's Track Notes

Amari Jones finished first in the 60. Jones ran 7.82 in the qualifying round and lowered her time to 7.79 in the finals. She also placed fifth in the 200 after running 25.92.

Joy Weems was victorious in the 400 with a career best of 56.40. Weems' time moved her into fifth place in Sacramento State history and is the second fastest in the Big Sky this year.

Carly Schulz was second in the 200 and fourth in the 400 with times of 25.41 and 58.31, respectively.

• The Hornet women claimed their second 4x400 relay title in as many meets. The team of Angelica Cusworth, Schulz, Weems and Cassidy Zurn ran 3:52.12 to win the race by over a second.

Women's Field Notes

Jelaia Jones and Tyhana Cooper dominated the throwing events. Jones was first in the shot put with a best of 45-10.50 and finished second in the weight throw at 55-11.00. Her shot put mark moved her into seventh place in Hornet history while her weight throw now ranks eighth. Cooper won the weight throw with a toss of 59-03.00 which moved her into third in the Sacramento State record book. She was second in the shot put at 43-07.75.

Abby Taylor led three Hornets in the top six of the long jump. Taylor won the event with a season best of 18-11.25.

• Nirie Boglino claimed the top spot in the triple jump with a mark of 37-02.50. She was also third in the long jump after a season best of 17-08.25.

Danielle Brandon completed the event winners for the women after placing first in the pole vault at 12-05.50 to move into fourth place in the Big Sky this season. Haley Ann Carbullido and Siobhan Anderson each cleared 11-11.75 to place second and third based on jumps.

Men's Track Notes

• The team of Alec Foster, Adam Huynh, Andrew Stich and Michael Turner won the 4x400 relay after running 3:20.52.

• Foster was third in both the 200 (22.43) and 400 (48.90).

• Turner tied for second in the 60. The senior's fastest time came in the prelims where he had a time of 6.90. He later ran 6.94 in the finals.

Andre Lindsey scored for the team in a pair of events. Lindsey was fifth in the 60 (7.03) and sixth in the 60-hurdles (8.98).

Men's Field Notes

• Junior Darius Armstead finished first in the triple jump and high jump. Armstead led a Hornet sweep of the top three spots in the triple with a leap of 48-11.50. That distance places him second in the Big Sky this year and third in school history. Jah Strange was second (48-09.00) and Mohamed Abdullah finished third (48-01.75). Armstead and Daniel Onuoha each cleared 6-06.00 to tie for the best mark in the high jump but he was awarded first place based on jumps.

• The Hornets also finished 1-2-3 in the long jump. Cory Barger jumped 22-9 to win the event. He was followed by Turner (22-05.75) and Richard Cooper (22-04.50).

Steven Pust set his season best with a pole vault of 15-05.00 to win the event. Pust's mark is third best in the league this year.

Kyle Peterson led the throwers by scoring in a pair of events. Peterson was third in the shot put at 49-05.00 and was fourth in the weight throw (54-08.25).
