DEL HOYO PLACES SECOND, JETTE LEADS AFTER FIRST DAY OF SNAKE RIVER OPEN

POCATELLO, Idaho — Emilia Del Hoyo finished second in the pentathlon and Max Jette holds the lead following the first four events of the heptathlon on Friday at the Snake River Open hosted by Idaho State.

Del Hoyo totaled 3,495 points to lead three Hornets in the top five. The sophomore took an early lead after running the 60-hurdles in 8.77 for the fastest time in the meet. Del Hoyo dropped to second place following the second event where she cleared 4-10.50 in the high jump.

She wasn't able to catch Idaho State's Bailey Woodbury during the next two events as she had distances of 34-02.00 in the shot put and 17-07.00 in the long jump.  Del Hoyo made up some ground in the 800 after running 2:28.66 to finish 5.42 seconds ahead of Woodbury.

Elizabeth Venzon placed third overall with 3,373 points. Venzon was consistent throughout the meet, placing among the top four in four of the five events. Newcomers Ivie Eboigbodin and Julia Grimm finished in fifth and sixth place. respectively. Eboigbodin scored 3,150 points while Grimm amassed 3,100. Grimm also tied for the top mark in the high jump (5-04.50) and the shot put (35-08.50).

Sacramento State was also represented by Brittany Dugger (8th, 2,977 points) and Caroline Combs (9th, 2,975 points).

Jette wracked up 2,751 points in the first four events of the heptathlon. He ran 7.44 in the 60 to start the day in the middle of pack before surging towards the top with a long jump of 20-11.75 which tied for the best among the field. Jette added a shot put of 38-04.75 and closed the day by clearing 6-04.75. That height was 3.5 inches beyond the closest competitor.

Andrew Stich is in seventh place with 2,495 points. Stich ran the 60 in 7.33, had a long jump of 20-07.75, a shot put of 34-11, and was successful at 5-07.25 in the high jump.

The final three events in the heptathlon (60-hurdles, pole vault, 1000) will take place on Saturday along with the main program of the meet.
