The Sacramento State track & field team will send 11 student-athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin, Texas, it was announced today. The 11 entries are comprised of four women and seven men competing in five events. Each individual event will have 48 competitors and the top 12 marks and times will move on to the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Championships. The West Preliminary will take place on May 25-27 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the Texas campus.
Sacramento State Director of Track & Field Jeff Magley was named the Big Sky Conference Men’s Track & Field Coach of the Year, it was announced today. The honor is the second for Magley in his career and the first on the men’s side.
The Sacramento State men’s team completed its quest for the 2017 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The men used a big scoring effort in the triple jump to move to the top of the team standings and then followed that effort with a season-best in the 4x400 relay to claim the third Big Sky men’s outdoor title in school history.
There truly is no place like home for the Sacramento State track & field teams when it comes to the Big Sky Outdoor Championships. When the team last hosted in 2011, the Hornets captured the men’s and women’s team titles completing a sweep of the indoor and outdoor crowns during the year. Now back at Hornet Stadium in 2017, Sacramento State got off to a strong start with victories from seniors Elizabeth Venzon in the heptathlon and Max Jette in the decathlon.
Alec Acevedo is in first place in the decathlon and Kassandra Corrigan is in second place in the heptathlon after the first day of action at the 2017 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hornet Stadium. The two events will conclude on Thursday and the main program of the meet will take place on Friday and Saturday.
The Sacramento State men’s and women’s track and field athletes combined to win 16 events and set four school top 10 marks on Saturday at the Sacramento State Open at Hornet Stadium. The meet was the final tune-up for the team before hosting the Big Sky Outdoor Championships on May 10-13.
The Sacramento State track and field team will host its final of the regular season when it welcomes the Sacramento State Open to Hornet Stadium on Saturday, May 6. The meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s hammer competition. The first running event will start at 10 a.m. with the women’s 5K. Other teams with entries in the meet include UC Davis, San Jose State and UC Santa Cruz as well other numerous unattached competitors.
The Sacramento State men’s and women’s sprinters and hurdlers enjoyed their best day of the season and Candice Dominguez recorded the second best high jump in school history to lead the team during the Brutus Hamilton Challenge on Saturday at Cal.
Sacramento State student-athletes in the winter sports of men’s and women’s basketball and men’s and women’s indoor track & field have earned 33 Academic All-Big Sky honors, the conference announced on Thursday.
Sacramento State junior Darius Armstead was named the Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the second during the outdoor season for Armstead and follows his record-shattering performance at the Causeway Classic Dual Meet on Friday in Davis, Calif.
The Sacramento State men won 10 events to defeat UC Davis in the Causeway Classic Dual on Friday night at Toomey Field. The Hornets scored 102 points compared to 89 from UCD. The men have now finished first in all three team scored events in which they competed this season.
The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams will make the short trip to UC Davis for the 12th annual Causeway Classic Dual Meet on Friday night. The meet starts with the men's hammer at 2 p.m. The long jump begins the jumps at 4:15 p.m. and the running events start at 5 p.m. with the women's 4x100 relay.
Members of the Sacramento State track & field team started a busy weekend by participating in the Bryan Clay Invitational Distance Carnival on Thursday night at Azusa Pacific. In all five Hornets competed in the day with the rest of the team set to begin competition on Friday during the second day of the Bryan Clay as well as the Mt. SAC Relays. The Hornets will also compete at the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State this weekend.

The Sacramento State track and field teams return to Hornet Stadium this weekend for the annual Mondo Team Challenge on Saturday, April 1. The meet will start with several events at 10 a.m. and is scheduled to conclude with the 4x400 relay at 3:20 p.m.
Sacramento State’s Michael Turner was named the Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and Julia Grimm was the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week following their performances at the Rainbow Relays in Honolulu last weekend.
The Sacramento State men’s and women’s track & field teams each recorded victories at the Rainbow Relays on Saturday at Hawaii. The Hornet men totaled 104 points to easily defeat Cal State Northridge (58) in the men’s race. The women’s team scored 172 points to finish ahead of Hawaii (123) and Cal State Northridge (78).
The Sacramento State track & field team has made the most of its spring break, leaving the rain and wind of Northern California in exchange for the beaches of Hawaii. The Hornets arrived on the island on Wednesday and will compete at the Rainbow Relays beginning on Friday. Along with Hawaii and the Hornets, the meet will include CSUN, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Hawaii Pacific.
