MEN AND WOMEN EARN TEAM TITLES AT RAINBOW RELAYSThe Sacramento State men’s and women’s track & field teams each recorded victories at the Rainbow Relays on Saturday at Hawaii. The Hornet men totaled 104 points to easily defeat Cal State Northridge (58) in the men’s race. The women’s team scored 172 points to finish ahead of Hawaii (123) and Cal State Northridge (78).
TRACK & FIELD IN HAWAII FOR RAINBOW RELAYS ON FRIDAYThe Sacramento State track & field team has made the most of its spring break, leaving the rain and wind of Northern California in exchange for the beaches of Hawaii. The Hornets arrived on the island on Wednesday and will compete at the Rainbow Relays beginning on Friday. Along with Hawaii and the Hornets, the meet will include CSUN, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Hawaii Pacific.
SCHULZ NAMED BIG SKY WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEKSacramento State’s Carly Schulz was named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Hornet Invitational last weekend at Hornet Stadium. The honor is the first for Schulz during her career.
ARMSTEAD BREAKS LONG-STANDING SCHOOL RECORD AT HORNET INVITATIONALTwo busy days of track & field came to a close on Saturday and saw the Hornets record eight school top 10 marks, including shattering a long-standing record at the Hornet Invitational. The meet was team scored and the Hornet men finished third in a tight battle. Big Sky rival Weber State won the competition with 166 points while Cal was second at 164. The Hornets were close behind with 150, nearly 100 points ahead of fourth-place Stanford (57). The Sacramento State women were second with 136.5 points placing the team only behind Cal (150).
MULTIS AND HAMMER START DAY 1 OF HORNET INVITEEight Sacramento State athletes took part in the multi events and 11 others competed in the hammer during the first day of the Hornet Invitational on Friday. The meet will continue of Saturday at Hornet Stadium.
TRACK & FIELD GETS OFF TO IMPRESSIVE START AT AGGIE OPENMembers of the Sacramento State track & field team didn’t need much time to adjust to the outdoor season as it combined to win eight events and set four school top 10 marks at the Aggie Open in the team’s first outdoor meet of the year.
VENZON, DEL HOYO SCORE POINTS IN PENTATHLON TO START BIG SKY INDOORSElizabeth Venzon finished in fourth place in the pentathlon and Emilia Del Hoyo was sixth to score Sacramento State’s first points at the 2017 Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday. The pair combined for eight points and have the Hornets tied for second place heading into the main program on Friday.
TRACK & FIELD LOOKS TO ADD TO BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIP RESUMEThe Sacramento State men’s and women’s track & field teams will look to remain as one of the conference’s elite as they take part in the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships in Pocatello, Idaho. The meet will start with the pentathlon and the first day of the heptathlon on Thursday at Idaho State. The heptathlon will continue on Friday while the main program of the meet will span Friday and Saturday.
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD TO TAKE PART IN TWO MEETS IN SEATTLEThe Sacramento State track & field teams will have their final chances to qualify for the Big Sky Championships when they compete in a pair of meets in Seattle. The Hornets will take part in the Husky Classic on Friday at Saturday as well as the UW Open on Sunday. Both meets will be held at the Dempsey Indoor which features a flat 307-yard Mondo surface.
TRACK & FIELD MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPRESSION IN OPENING INDOOR MEETDespite being one of the last teams in the country to start its indoor season, Sacramento State made up for the delay with strong performances at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday. The Hornets posted eight school top 10 marks and had 24 top three finishes in their first competition of the year.
