SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State head softball coach Lori Perez announced the program's fifth signee of the 2019 recruiting class with the inking of New Mexico transfer Jensen Main, who will be a junior for the Hornets.

Main, a 5-foot-10 right-handed pitcher from Seaside, Calif., played the 2017 and 2018 seasons for New Mexico of the Mountain West Conference. Prior to New Mexico, Main was a two-time league MVP at Stevenson High School in Pebble Beach.

During her two years at New Mexico, Main made 57 appearances in the circle, including 46 starts. She combined for 15 wins and threw nearly 245 innings (243.2). In fact, this past season, she posted team highs in wins (8), appearances (37), starts (29), complete games (13) and innings pitched (162.2).

One of those appearances came at the Lobo Classic in March in which she faced Sacramento State. Despite the Hornets winning, 7-5, in extra innings, Main was impressive, allowing Sacramento State just four hits and no earned runs over 6.1 innings. In May, she picked up wins over San Diego State on back-to-back days, combining to allow the Aztecs just three runs over 12 innings pitched. Main also had wins this past season against New Mexico State, Colorado State, UNLV and Cal State Northridge among others.

In two seasons, she hit .320 (8-for-25) with six runs scored, a double, home run and seven RBIs. That included last year where Main hit .357 (5-for-14) with seven RBIs in 14 at-bats. In the Lobos' 5-2 win over Cal State Northridge, she pitched a complete-game victory while also hitting a three-run homer in the third inning.

"We are excited to have Jensen join our pitching staff" Perez said. "She will come in with two years of Div. I experience against top level teams. Jensen is a hard working, mature player who will grow in our system. In addition to being a pitcher, she also has the ability to swing the bat and gives us another weapon in our lineup."

A 2016 graduate of Stevenson High School, she was named the Mission Trail Athletic League MVP during both her junior and senior seasons. A four-time all-county selection and a three-time Stevenson High School Top Female Athlete selection, Main was named the conference pitcher of the year as a senior in 2016.

Main is the fifth player to sign with Sacramento State, joining Knight High School middle infielder Shea Graves, Santiago High School first baseman/outfielder Alondra Mejia, Sierra Canyon High School pitcher Alyssa Nunez and Bella Vista High School catcher/third baseman Katelyn Snow.

Sacramento State is the defending Big Sky Conference regular season and tournament champions after finishing the 2018 season with a 31-20 overall record and a 14-7 mark in league. The Hornets also qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008.
