SOFTBALL TO GET A FRESH LOOK IN 2014
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento State softball program will break out plenty of new bells and whistles for the 2014 season.
Not only did the program get a new scoreboard, the team will also unveil two brand new Adidas uniform sets. Additionally, Shea Stadium got a new windscreen on the outfield fence, new padding on the backstop, new dugout railing padding, and a brand new 36-foot wide athletics logo adorns the water tower beyond the right field fence.
Sacramento State now has four different uniform sets that will be worn during the 2014 season. The scoreboard is 24 feet wide by 15 feet tall and is equipped with LED digits and team names.
The windscreen on the outfield fence features field dimensions down the right and left field lines, an NCAA and Big Sky Conference logo in the power alleys, the words 'Sacramento State Hornets' stretched across center field, and the school's two retired jerseys in the right field corner.
The Hornets retired former three-time All-American Susie Bugliarello's #17 jersey in 2005, and former All-American Lindy Winkler will have her #3 jersey retired later this year. While Winkler's jersey won't be officially retired until March 15, her jersey already adorns the outfield wall.
The new backstop padding depicts the athletics logo on either side of home plate for the first time ever.
