SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State head softball coach Kathy Strahan announced the program's third signee of the 2013 recruiting class with the inking of Ball State transfer Sasha Margulies, who will enroll as a sophomore at the University this fall.
Margulies, who is a 5-foot-10 first baseman/catcher from San Diego, bats left and throws right. She played last season for a Ball State squad that finished the year with a 37-17 overall record and won the Mid-American Conference regular season championship with an 18-3 league mark.
Margulies appeared in two games for the Cardinals in 2013, and went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and a .667 slugging percentage.
She prepped at San Diego's Westview High School where she was a three-year letterwinner in softball for the Wolverines. During her career, Margulies was a two-time first team all-San Diego CIF North County selection, two-time first team all-Palomar League, two-time San Diego Union all-academic, and two-time team offensive MVP.
As a senior, she was also named all-CIF San Diego Section after batting .484 with five home runs, 10 doubles and a .529 on-base percentage. Margulies finished her prep career with a .432 batting average after hitting .360 as a junior and .440 as a sophomore. She was called up to the varsity squad midway through her freshman season after batting .820 for the junior varsity team.
She played six years of club softball for the San Diego Renegades (four years), California Cruisers (one year) and the San Diego Fury (one year).
Margulies is the third player to sign with Sacramento State from the 2013 recruiting class, including Mira Costa High School catcher/outfielder Nikki Gialketsis and Inglemoor High School outfielder Shelby Johnston.
