BEACH VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN FIRST DAY OF HOME TOURNAMENT

FOLSOM, Calif. — Sacramento State lost its first two matches of a two-day, three-match tournament at Livermore Community Park. The Hornets lost to both Boise State and UC Davis by identical 4-1 scores.

The Hornets are hosting a mini-tournament that includes Pacific, Boise State and UC Davis. Three tournament matches were played today, including Boise State defeating Pacific by a 3-2 score. Three more matches will conclude tournament play tomorrow, including Sacramento State taking on Pacific at 10 a.m. For tournament information and schedule, please click here.

Sacramento State, once again, was using a very young lineup. Of the 10 players used in today's matches, seven were underclassmen, including four freshmen and three sophomores.

The Hornets' lone win against Pacific came when McKenna Smith and Macey Hayden won their match at No. 3 by a 17-21, 23-21, 16-14 score. Sacramento State dropped the other four matches in straight sets.

Against UC Davis, the match was much closer than the final score indicated. Sacramento State got its win at the No. 1 spot in the doubles lineup when the combination of Mikaela Nocetti and Sarah Davis defeated the Aggies' Jane Seslar and Lauren Matias by a 14-21, 21-15, 15-8 score.

At No. 4, the true freshmen duo of Kayla Subbert and Paige Calvin lost by a 21-16, 14-21, 16-14 score. In addition, Skyler Takeda and Ashtin Olin also lost in three sets at No. 2 by a 21-15, 13-21, 15-11 score. Sacramento State dropped its other two matches in close fashion at No. 3 (21-16, 21-17) and No. 5 (21-14, 23-21).
