BEACH VOLLEYBALL DROPS A 4-1 HOME DECISION TO BOISE STATE

FOLSOM, Calif. — Sacramento State's Sloan Lovett and Madeline Cannon were victorious at No. 1 doubles, but that proved to the lone Hornet victory in a 4-1 loss to Boise State on the first day of a beach volleyball tournament at Livermore Community Park.

Today's match kicked off a two-day, four-team tournament hosted by Sacramento State, which includes four matches tomorrow. Sacramento State will play Cal Poly, and Boise State (5-4) takes on Pacific tomorrow at 9 a.m., followed by two more matches (Sacramento State vs. Pacific; Boise State vs. Cal Poly) at noon.

Tomorrow concludes the regular season for Sacramento State, as the Hornets will not play again until the Big West Conference Tournament in Long Beach on April 29-30.

The win for Lovett/Cannon was the tandem's fifth victory of the season, and came against Boise State's Maddy O'Donnell and Hannah Hubbard, 23-21, 21-19.

At No. 2, the Hornets' Morgan Stanley and Lauren Aikels forced a third set but fell, 21-17, 19-21, 15-10. Each of the other three doubles matches concluded in straight sets, including Lexie Skalbeck and Lana Brown falling at No. 3 (21-12, 21-15), Brie Gathright and Hannah Meadows losing at No. 4 (21-18, 21-12), and Kennedy Kurtz/Brigitte Murdock losing at No. 5 by a 21-15, 21-16 score.
