BEACH VOLLEYBALL DROPS ROAD MATCH AT SAINT MARY’S, 4-1

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Saint Mary's received straight set wins from its Nos. 1-4 doubles teams on the way to a 4-1 victory over Sacramento State in a beach volleyball matchup Wednesday evening at Heather Farms Park.

With the victory, the Gaels won their third straight while improving to 7-2 overall. Coupled with their win over Sacramento State (1-12) in the season opener, the Gaels are now 2-0 against the Hornets this season.

The Hornet doubles team of sophomore Hannah Meadows and freshman Brie Gathright was victorious at No. 5 over Hannah Liserra and Hallie Sullivan by a 21-17, 21-15 score. The tandem of Meadows/Gathright is now 2-1 this season with one of those wins coming at the No. 4 slot in the team's lineup.

For Sacramento State, Sloan Lovett and Madeline Cannon lost at No. 1 by a 21-13, 21-18 score, Morgan Stanley/Lauren Aikels fell at No. 2 by a 22-20, 21-10 score, and the combination of Lana Brown/Lexie Skalbeck (21-14, 21-11 at No. 3) and Kennedy Kurtz/Skyler Takeda (21-12, 21-12 at No. 4) also dropped their matches.

The Hornets return to the sand later this week when they host a two-day tournament on Friday-Saturday, April 8-9, at Folsom's Livermore Community Park. The five-team tournament includes New Mexico, Washington, CSU Bakersfield and San Jose State.
