STOCKTON, Calif. -- Despite a doubles win from the Hornet tandem of Kennedy Kurtz and Lexie Skalbeck, Sacramento State fell on the road to 18th-ranked Pacific, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon at Raney Courts.

The victory improved Pacific to 2-2 on the young season while the Hornets dropped to 0-5. Sacramento State has played all five of its matches away from home, and each has come against a team from northern California. The schedule doesn't get much easier as the Hornets will play three of their next four matches against a ranked opponent. Including today's loss to Pacific, which is ranked 18th in the nation, Sacramento State will play four ranked teams during a span of five matches.

Sacramento State wasn't that far off from winning today as the Hornets saw their doubles teams at Nos. 1 and 2 go to three sets before losing.

Pacific opened the scoring by winning matches in straight sets at Nos. 4 and 5 to take a 2-0 lead. Kurtz and Skalbeck then won their match at No. 3 by a 21-13, 21-17 score to draw the Hornets within, 2-1.

The Tigers, however, won the next two matches to provide the final 4-1 outcome. Sacramento State's Madeline Cannon and Sloan Lovett lost at No. 1 (21-16, 16-21, 15-9) and the Hornets' No. 2 team of Shannon Boyle and Morgan Stanley fell by the score of 16-21, 21-16, 17-15.

Sacramento State will now host a one-day, four-team tournament on Saturday that includes two ranked opponents in #13 San Francisco and #19 California. The Hornets will play at 10 a.m. against California, and 1 p.m vs. San Francisco. The tournament has been moved to the Sacramento Softball Complex. Originally, the tourney was supposed to be played at the Hornets' new beach facility, Folsom's Livermore Community Park, but the playing conditions took a hit due to the recent heavy rains in the area.
