Head of the Lagoon results
FOSTER CITY, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women's rowing squad competed in one event at the Head of the Lagoon on Saturday morning, and raced to a first-place finish in the Collegiate Novice Eight. The race marked the conclusion of the fall schedule for the Hornets.
Saturday's racing took place on a five-kilometer course with a time trial format. Sacramento State traveled just two boats to the event, and both of those entries competed in the Collegiate Novice Eight.
The Hornets' A boat placed first with a time of 21:44.4, finishing ahead of five others in the six-boat field. Sacramento State's winning time was just two-tenths of a second faster than Humboldt State (21:44.6), followed by UC Davis (23:11.7), Saint Mary's (23:58.5), Sacramento State's B boat (24:04.1) and UC Davis B (26:13.5). Cal and Saint Mary's were supposed to be compete, but both scratched before the race.
The Hornets' novice eight took home second place in last year's event before improving on that mark today.
